Guest guest
Hi All, My son 5 yo DS?ASD has ground his two front teeth almost down to nothing. He will be getting stainless steel crowns on his molars to help prolong the life of all of his teeth for now. I need to get the grinding under control before his permanent teeth come in. Can any one offer any suggestions?? Thanks, Caryn -- mom to seven including (he is the middle child) _________________________________________________________________ Make your home warm and cozy this winter with tips from MSN House & Home. http://special.msn.com/home/warmhome.armx
Guest guest
Hi Caryn, I have heard that people have had some success with cranial sacral therapy for teeth grinding. My son's physcial therapist has done this therapy with Brook and I have been happy with the results. Maybe you could look into that and see if it might help. I had shoulder pads pinned on my shoulders underneath my shirt and down my arms. It helped greatly and eventually he just stopped. Everytime he would bite I would give him a chew toy. It may sound crazy but I would try to keep my hair back and wear a hat. If he pulls the hat that may be enough to redirect him or give him something to hold before you go near him to keep those hands busy. It's a trial and error situation, be creative. When he'd pull my hair, I'd remove his hand (not easy when he's in full grip mode) and redirect him to stroking my hair, saying " gentle, gentle " . Yea, same here Carole. Also, Maddie used to grind like crazy. We did the chew toys, vibrators and mouth massage (inside and out)....lots of work with her sensory integration therapist (we took Maddie for private SI for 3 1/2 years). Every time we'd see her grind, we'd get right in there and massage her cheeks. Probably she stopped to get us to keep away from her face....LOLOL Donna

I think discover toys has some, I know that I am seen some ads in some of the catalogs that I get. Thanks again, Caryn > >Reply-To: >To: < > >Subject: Re: teeth grinding >Date: Fri, 4 Jan 1980 00:19:47 -0600 > >nathan ground most of his teeth to nothing too, but its a sensory issue, i >would invest in chewy tubes and mought vibrating toys, and i use to rub >ambesol along nathan's gums at noc b4 bed and this has helped, he is sol on >new permanent ones, doesnt have any under there, just his flat molars. >shawna. > > > teeth grinding > > > > Hi All, > > > > My son 5 yo DS?ASD has ground his two front teeth almost down to > > nothing.
