Sue, are you seeing improvement on the depakote and risperidal? I am always leary about using a combo of drugs unless I can see that each one is helping in some way. We tried the adderall along with the risperdal (Maddie had been on risperdal for a while though, so we could gauge what effect each med had). I took her off after two weeks. She became zombie-like and stopped inter-acting with us...became very hard to engage. It was like we lost the *giggly Maddie*. The only good effect, which is what Dr. Capone was looking for, was the loss of apetite. But I'd rather deal with weight/eating issues than losing ground with Maddie. BTW, she's back to normal, so the effect didn't last. Donna

Yes Sue. While we didn't see immediate effects like Andy had, Maddie slowly became more and more *zombie-like*. It was like we lost the *giggly Maddie*. She became irritable and reclusive....very hard to engage again. Sort of like it reversed the effects of the risperdal. We too, have issues with the weight gain...Maddie's gained 20 lbs since starting in April, but we see such wonderful progress with the risperdal that we're keeping her on it for now. Donna P.S. My son just started it for his newly dx of ADHD and we are seeing very nice stuff.
Guest guest
I am seeing sooo much improvement in Karrie with the risperdal and the depakote!! She is sleeping through the night, no more meltdowns, talking is back better than before, potty-training is back (even b.m.), she is even laughing again and interacting better than ever!!! The reason Dr. Capone wants to add the adderall is for the impulse control. An example: Walking out of Latchkey on Thursday, Karrie walked past her friend Zach, who was sitting on the floor. She kicked him in the back, said, Sorry, Zach and kept on walking. She just can't seem to control the kicking/lashing out at people. The side effect of weight loss would be great since she has gained 25 lbs. in 2 months. I had meant to phrase my question about adderall to read more like...anyone had any undesirable side effects from their child being on adderall?? Hope all are well! Yes, we have. If adderall doesn't work for your child it will be evident in the first hour or so each time you give it to her. When Andy tried Adderall, he had aggressive outbursts and burst into tears. It had the opposite effect of what we wanted. Clearly it shook him up. Thankfully, it is not a drug you need to wean. Guest guest
Hi Sue, What great progress for Karrie. Dr. Capone recommended some meds for Zeb's extreme anxiety issues but I am still waiting for the ped to look at his report. Your trip to Dr. Capone was well worth it. I hope the adderal gives Karrie some good results too. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 11 DS/OCD

Sue, Sounds like when he was that age. It wasn't safe for my 3 year old niece to be around him since he would just strike out without thinking or time for us to react. That has greatly decreased and I would say that adderall definitely helped with it. The adderall has been good for us but other stimulant meds or the wrong dose of adderall have given us trouble. Ritalin caused running laps around the house and trying to stand on his head. The wrong dose of adderall made him cranky and more aggressive. Good luck with it and glad the other meds are working for your family. karyn
