Guest guest
Hi All Having a problem with Adam, any ideas? Saturday he complained of a swelling down his throat, he said he wasn't in any pain but was concerned it would block his airway. I monitored him as i could not see any sign of a problem, he drank and ate normally, and his breathing and BP was normal. Monday morning he got on the mini bus for school quite happy and excited to go to school. He's been doing great since that horrid teacher left at Christmas. Well 5 mins after he left he phoned me to say he was on his way home. As soon as he got in the house he started to hyper ventilate and was panic stricken screaming and shouting "i'm going to die phone an ambulance" he was hysterical and in such a state i did call an ambulance. The paramedics worked with him for almost an hour as did i trying to calm him down and get him to breath normal. He finally calmed down after i called his GP and got an appointment for him to see her in 2 hours time. She checked him over and had a good long look down his throat but could not find anything wrong. We talked for a while with Adam and the more he became agitated the more he said his throat was swelling and became fearful for his life, it was obvious he was having an extreme anxiety attack. He hasn't been to school at all this week so far although he is missing it, i took him out for a walk yesterday and he again became agitated and kept asking me to call for an ambulance as he felt he was going to die. Since Monday he will not eat his food, only a couple of mouthful and he says he can't swallow and eating will make him die, if he drinks he thinks he will drown, all he wants to do is lie down. He is in a terrible state of mind, however when i keep him constantly physically and mentally occupied he seems ok and his anxiety level is zero, that's if i can manage to get him out of my bed or off the settee. He will not let me out of his sight and i couldn't even go to work Monday evening. He listens to me when i talk to him about anxiety and unintentional self inflicted illnesses, he agrees it's all in his mind one minute but the next he loses the plot again. I'm at the end of my tether it's killing me seeing him suffer like this, as i am writing this he is chatting to his dad and is in high spirits but 20 mins ago he wanted an ambulance again. I managed to get him an appointment with his psych for Friday, she, his teachers and myself are all shocked about how Adam is reacting, it is so not like him. Any tips anyone can give me is greatly needed and appreciated, thank you in advance. Elaine
