Misdiagnosed. I still have enormous problems getting food and liquid down and staying down. Often times I cannot even drink water without it coming right out - never making it to my stomach. Just another little problem that to date no one has been able to find an answer to. Hi Don, I’m another Aussie. Welcome to the gang! The above descriptions sounds very much like the problem I have – a sliding oesophageal hernia - and had similar symptoms to what you have mentioned. I am now on medication, and the symptoms rarely appear. Like most people with Bronchiectasis, you have multiple medical problems. It does cause depression from time to time, but changing your lifestyle to suit your medical conditions will help. My mother has Meniere’s, so I know what you’re going through there; it’s a horrible thing at times, but can be pretty much controlled with medication in most cases. She also has jumping leg syndrome, and I’m beginning to wonder if they are linked. I took ten years for me to be diagnosed with Bronchiectasis, and I’m sure everyone here can tell you a similar story. It’s a major problem, no matter where in the world you live. The disease presents in a different way with just about everyone, so it’s difficult for physicians to diagnose. Education in this area is sadly lacking, and one that the Australian Lung Foundation is currently addressing. I can also relate to your wife’s problem with getting sleep. Until we bought a waterbed, my husband was a chronic snorer, and I used to sneak out and sleep on the sofa or a spare bed for many years. But you put up with it for the one you love; it’s that simple. Hope this helps, and look forward to getting to know you.
