Guest guest
Raquel and Courage- Thank you for showing concern. Thankfully our home isn't affected by the flooding, however it can be a chore getting around as many streets are barricaded off due to water covering the roads. Our real concern now is Saylorville Lake, about 20 minutes to our North. An emergency levee was built 6 ft above flood level after the floods of '93. The emergency levee is expected to crest by Wednesday pushing more water into our already flooded rivers and creeks. Most rivers and creeks near us are already 5-9 feet above flood level. Our water treatment plant is only accessible by boat. Ironic really. There are several people going to the aid of those in need filling sand bags in hopes of saving their homes and businesses. Although there have already been homes and businesses damaged. Water is coming up through septic tanks, drains, toilets - all in basements. It is all so sad to watch. Our Governor has issued a state of emergency, so far, in 33 of our 99 counties. The damage from tornadoes and flooding is horrific. There are several emergency sites set up so families can go to stay, having been evacuated from their homes. I was going to fill sand bags myself, however, my truck overheated today and I had it in the shop to have a new thermostat put in. So, in a nutshell, that's the status of Iowa, even in Des Moines. It is heart warming knowing we are being thought of and concerns are posted here in the group. Words can't express the gratitude. Has anyone heard about our friends living in Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin? We have just seen in the News the devastation in those states. I don't remember exactly who lives where, but I know that we have members of the group in those 3 states. I'm worried about them and have been praying for their safety. Please let them know they are not forgotten, and let the rest of us know if they are OK. Hope and pray every one of them is fine! Guest guest
Sandie, We aren't getting the flooding here in Metro Detroit, MI as we haven't really had that much rain. But the storms have been horrific. We have 170,000 without electricity. First they hoped to have it all back on by Tuesday night and now they are hoping Wed night. Maybe!! Trees are up by the roots. Houses are crushed in the middle. Cars look like pancakes. Fortunately that is all 5 miles north or south of us. We had another threat tonight but it went south of us. We have people in from several states around helping to get the electricity back on. Trees are laying over wires or wires are broken and lying on the ground hopefully not starting fires or killing anyone. And it has cooled down tonight for the first time. I didn't get crushed and no other wind damage. And I still have electricity. I knew I should get a generator! Hope you are ok and don't get more of the rain. The news said you guys really don't need it. I see WI is floating in water too. Houses floating by. What a mess. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.
