Guest guest
My son was diagnosed with encopresis, which I thought was just constipation until someone brought it up on another webgroup. Then I found this article from a doctor's office that explains the problem more briefly but in detail. The article states that food allergies are the cause. The group is a GFCF group and we are strictly GFCF. So, I knew gluten or casein was not the culprit. A little experiment for a week with removing more of the top 8 food allergens (corn and soy) not only helped my son's behavior, but he seemed to keep a dry pull-up during that time as well. So, I began to wonder and then found that person's post and then found this: http://ibstreatmentcenter.blogspot.com/2011/03/encopresis-intimidating-word-and.\ html I strongly recommend removing all top 8 food allergens from your child's diet for two weeks and reintroduce one at a time for a few weeks at a time and see if you can pinpoint the problem and if it is related. This might mean sending food with your child wherever your child goes (school, etc...) and giving strict instructions to others about the food. I figured with school being out most places, then it would be easier. This means no boxed, frozen or prepared foods. Use only fresh meats, veggies, and fruits. After two weeks, add one allergen back in and see if the problem (which hopefully disappeared or reduced at least) gets worse. Just wanted to pass this on in hopes of helping someone who might have an older kid like mine still in pull-ups. P.S. The top 8 food allergens which account for 90% of the problems are the following: Milk (ALL casein/dairy) Eggs Peanuts Tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, walnuts) Fish (such as bass, cod, flounder) Shellfish (such as crab, lobster, shrimp) Soy Wheat (of course, I would incude ALL gluten here, which would be wheat, barley, rye, and non GF oats, etc...)
