Guest guest
I am currently on cholestyramine, I am interested in talking with any one who has had experience with this, good or bad. I have heard wonderful things about it from articles (Dr. Shoemakers) but have not actually talked to anyone who has taken it and had the remarkable outcome which is spoken about. Where are the people who were part of the first study that are so much better? Would love to hear some feedback. There are many docs in No. CA using it. Guest guest
Mitch Hoggard is the guy to contact in Chico California. He is doing a study with the cholesteramine. I have no idea where he is at with the study. I spoke to him many months ago. I can't find his phone number at the moment. He is also the head of Chico Hyperbaric Center. You can probably reach him though email or phone through the center. The website http://www.hbotoday.com/ has that information available. I hope this helps. Robynn Re: [ ] Digest Number 1637 Rhonna, Supposedly Bowen is looking for lyme, babesia, and erlichia. The results should be to my doctor soon. If you could scan the pictures you have, and briefly explain it to the group, that would be great! So far, my only positive tests arre LUATS. WB and elisa equivocal. Doed anyone know who Dr. Shoemaker's colleague in CA is, and how to contact them? Lets get better,
Guest guest
>The protocol is used alot w/ patients w/ Lyme's disease. That is a bad sign, since most of these people don't really have lyme disease, they have an incompetent doctor who can't treat what they do have (usually mercury) so he keeps randomly changing the diagnosis. > I am still pretty confused but also excited. I was using activated > charcoal prior to this w/ good results but not this good. Lynn Knapp on the stealth group > has been helped immensely w/ its use. Many fat soluble and similar toxins are excreted in bile and then reabsorbed. Bile is how the body gets oil and water to mix in the intestines (it is actually soaps and detergents) so the oily stuff can be digested. Cholestyramine absorbs bile. This has several consequences if you use enough of it. 1. no fat absorption. No omega 3's, vitamin E, vitamin A, etc. absorbed. Might as well not give them with the cholestyramine. 2. constipation. Bile is lubricating. Laxatives like fiber and mineral oil need to be given if large amounts of cholestyramine are used. Actually the fat soluble nasties come out in the fats and oils that don't get digested. So you do want a reasonable amount of fat in the diet while doing this. But since it won't be absorbed well you aren't too concerned about its nutritional properties. I think in most instances this won't be a very useful intervention, but as long as you realize it can impair fat soluble nutrient absorption and double up on those on the off weeks (they last a long time in the body, you don't have to give them every day) and take reasonable measures to avoid constipation it is harmless. Also inexpensive. Cholestyramine is completely inert and not absorbed systemmically. So if you want to try it there is very little risk, it is not hard to do, and it might work. My guess is that it will be fairly magical for a few people and not do much for most, but I don't know how much nasty junk is circulating back and forth between all of our livers and intestines. Guest guest
Both my husband and I have taken Cholestyramine as prescribed by our LLMD to help detox and we both tolerated it just fine. We mixed it with juice, but it is not terrible in water. I cannot remember whether it caused some temporary constipation or not - but if it did, we would have just taken more magnesium. Guest guest
This may sound like a stupid question but what doctor prescribed the cholestyramine? I'm interested but don't know who to approach. My internist will probably prescribe (he's a delightful pill pusher) but he won't know what I'm talking about and what dose etc. I've just had a bad mold exposure and and wondering if this might help me-I'm at that desperate stage. I'm in NYC if that helps for a recommendation. Guest guest
> > I just started taking Cholestyramine for mold exposure and was wondering approximately how long it takes to work? I realize everyone responds differently and results may vary. Depends on how sick/toxic you are, I think. I've been taking it pretty steadily for about a year now, and huge amounts of toxins are still coming out of my body. This only happens if I get my exposures REALLY low though. Otherwise the toxins won't come out at all, no matter what I use. CSM just gives me constipation then. This is the part that Mold Warriors doesn't cover. That book suggests that CFS sufferers' C3a (and presumably C4a) stay up even after csm therapy. Dr. S acts like it's perplexing why. With someone like me, with CFS, exposures need to be super low in order to get the system " damped down " enough to switch complement off (which is part of the point of " extreme avoidance " ). And a couple of weeks of csm is just a drop in the bucket, considering the amount of toxins that some of us have in our bodies. (I believe Dr. S understands that now.) My reactivity is coming down, and I think that the csm has been a big part of that. It's not been any sort of a quick fix though.
Guest guest
If you have high cholesterol, you could ask for it for that. If not, you might need to search for info on the internet about the role of bile sequesterants in protecting the liver, or if you think he would be open minded enough to follow Dr Shoemakers' advise, take in Mold Warrior. You might be able to get it from library? Does he understand the value of detoxing the liver. If so, that's a start. I just asked a doctor who I do alot of business with, alt doctor, if he would do me the favor of Rxing it for me. He had other ideas but in the end he wrote the Rx. Alternative doctors usually are knowledgeable about the importance of detoxing the liver. > > This may sound like a stupid question but what doctor prescribed the cholestyramine? Guest guest
MDs or DO (Doctors of Osteopathy), that practice alternative medicine or Integrative medicine (intergrat traditional and alternative medicine), should understand. Traditional doctors you probably would need to have high cholesterol since that is what it is made for and they never think " outside the box/outsides their box " , which is very small. > > This may sound like a stupid question but what doctor prescribed the cholestyramine? Guest guest
slayadragon@ so I guess you dont have the smelly sweat problem that several have commented on because you dont detox ? weird, after I got out of my exposure I think it was coming out of my pours,my feet, my scalp,my fingers, tears, poo, urine, anywhere it could. soaking in a hot bath made me fight not to pass out and I got nauses because that would really get the detox going. I was border line CFS 5 years after my exposure, probably would have been diagnosed with it than if I would have went to this doctor than. could hardly walk and had problems with falling mainly because of dragging feet. I was doing so much better by the time I went to him. were you diagnosed with fibromyalgia too? > > > > > > I just started taking Cholestyramine for mold exposure and was wondering approximately how long it takes to work? Guest guest
It may take a year to see a measurable improvement with CSM if you have a great toxin load, also if you are still in a toxic environment, it will not keep up at all, this has been my personal experience. > > > >From: Tug <tug_slug@...> > >Subject: [] Cholestyramine > > > >Date: Sunday, January 10, 2010, 12:54 PM > > > > I just started taking Cholestyramine for mold exposure and was > >wondering approximately how long it takes to work? Guest guest
there was a Dr. ph Tadlebaum (<spelling?) on Dr. Oz the other day talking about CFS, he said that basicly CFS was not being able to sleep even though your very very tired. one of the symptoms I suffered during exposure and after with aquired chemical sensitivity. amaseing how advoidance made a hudge difference in my ability to sleep amaseing how this same symptom returns if something gets in my space like perfume for example. > > > > > > I just started taking Cholestyramine for mold exposure and was wondering approximately how long it takes to work? Guest guest
I guess I should consider myself lucky than, I've been taking it for 3 days and my headaches arent nearly as bad as they were and while the but the brain fog is still there it's also lessened to a certain degree. I was exposed the the toxic environment for about 6 weeks but because I work out of my home I was inhaling mold spores 7 days a week 24 hours a day so Im not sure if that makes a difference. What worries me is my townhouse is being fogged for the second time in 3 days and will have air samples taken within 2 days after that. If the air samples deemed acceptable I'll be expected to move back in but because I'm so hypersensitive how will I be able to without getting sick again? I cant believe the stress this has caused. I can honestly see myself having to file for bankruptcy because Im quickly running out of money when all I wanted to do was buy a townhouse. > > > In just one week I noticed my brain fog lifting and headaches were less. Guest guest
I see Dr. Shoemaker. The following is the protocol and you can also tell your Dr. to go to his website _www.biotoxin.info_ (http://www.biotoxin.info) for more info. I worked for me and I NEVER missed a dose! I would set my alarm for about 6AM to take the 1st dose so eating breakfast didn't interfere then took dose two about 11AM, then the 3rd one about 4 or 4:30 then the last about 9PM. I used the little plastic sippy cups (for kids) & removed the straws and would premix it before going to bed that way I could just shake it well, drink it down followed by another cup of water. Also easy to travel with. I kept mine in a small insulated lunch bag and never had to worry about mixing if I was out. Hope your Dr. will give it a try for you! S Re: CSM Protocol Posted by: Sun Jan 20, 2008 3:34 pm (PST) Here is the CSM protocol I received from Dr. Shoemaker in April 2007: 1. On an empty stomach, take one scoop of CSM (9 grams), mix with water, or juice, 4-6 oz 2. Stir well and swallow. Add more liquid, repeat 1 above until done. 3. Drink an extra 4-6 oz of liquid 4. After 30 minutes, you may eat or take meds (wait at least 2 hours before taking thyroxine, digitalis, theophylline, coumadin and others, ask your doctor for information) 5. Take CSM 4 times a day! 6. If you eat first, wait at least 60 minutes before taking your next CSM 7. Reflux, constipation, bloating and bowel distress are to be expected 8. Use acid blocking medications as needed 9. Use sorbitol, 70% solutions, 1 TBSP 3-4 times a day to relieve constipation This may sound like a stupid question but what doctor prescribed the cholestyramine? I'm interested but don't know who to approach. My internist will probably prescribe (he's a delightful pill pusher) but he won't know what I'm talking about and what dose etc. I've just had a bad mold exposure and and wondering if this might help me-I'm at that desperate stage. Guest guest
I'm just going to make a comment to newbees regarding the book " mold warriors " . Dr. Shoemaker has commented himself that it's in need of updateing, so you may also want to visit his web sites. also remain open to other veiws as there is a verity of illness involved and differentes in organ damage, exposures, ect. I dont think anyone has all the answers yet, so pay careful attn. to your body, your reactions, ect. but understand that it's all going to be a little confuseing, or alot, depending on how bad you were injured and problems with brain function could be hindering your thought process. I think we are all in agreement that you have to first get away from that toxic environment and into or somewhere where you can began to fell better. and theres a good possability that your own shampoo's,laundry deturgents, soaps, and household cleaning products, stuff like that can keep you in a reactive state,so it's good to practice avoidance of purfumes in these products and chemicals. keep in mind that some have been here for awhile and because all is not known you well read different views, take it all with a grain of salt and worry about sorting it all out in your own head later when you fell more up to it. a good guide that you are reaching a decent level of advoidance might be that your symptoms start to seperate instead of being just one mass of symptoms close to what you suffered during exposure. you may later than start reconizing certain triggers cause certain effects but you really do have to pay close attn. to your body. ps, trying to many different things at once could be more taxing on the body so you really have to be careful. and dont think any question is dumb, thats how we learn. > > This may sound like a stupid question but what doctor prescribed the cholestyramine? Guest guest
The constipation can easily be treated with Milk of Magnesia. Try 2 teaspoons EVERY night! Ok I am just not too sure about this course of treatment anymore. I have had ulcers and severe constipation and from the looks of it, this drug will exacerbate both these issues again. I don't know if this is the way to go for me now. I appreciate that you are so honest and direct about the issues-thank you! Surella
Guest guest
Unfortunately you will know almost immediately if your house is safe again. You will either remain feeling good or all your symptoms will come back right after moving back in. It is cruel and unfair and I wish I had something happier to say. Just don't ignore the feelings you get-one thing I have learned is that denial about feeling bad doesn't get me anywhere. I know when I'm reacting and I've learned to listen to my body. Unfortunately, this has cost me thousands and thousands of dollars in repair work in my house and it continues till today. I will forever be hunting down little sprouts of mold in my house I think. Next challenge: I smell something wrong in my bedroom closet. Walls will be coming down. > > I guess I should consider myself lucky than, I've been taking it for 3 days and my headaches arent nearly as bad as they were and while the but the brain fog is still there it's also lessened to a certain degree. > > I was
