so i am 1000 miles from the baby's drs, he has in the last 3 days decided that

he is wanting to eat 8-10 oz at a time, and wanting to feed every 2 hours....

this is ridiculous amounts b/c he is only 6.5 weeks old... his pediatrician is a

quack and wont sign off for his referrals to the specialists so i am in the

process of switching, but thanks to having a florida based hmo, i am stuck using

whomever is in their network.  he has now decided that he wants to spit up as

well.... im not sure what is going on with him, but i see a lot of people

talking about reflux, dumb question, but how can i tell if he might be having an

issue with that? we did a swallow study and they said everything looked great,

so no poor muscle tone with the tongue, but thanks to them telling me to not b/f

because of his failure to thrive, all the induced stress made me lose my milk so

now its just formula  :( .... anyhow, just thought i would throw that question

out, im still

househunting and giving away 2 little girls who are driving me crazy in this

tiny hotel if anyone wants them, haha.... no returning them though.....lol

- you certainly have your hands full - our daughter also had reflux and

we would prop her up after she ate - take care.

My son (who was 2 weeks early) wanted to nurse every two hours (FOR AN

HOUR+ !) and when I went back to work and started pumping then I realized it

was 12 -> 14 oz he was getting at a time. So I was nursing him getting an

hour to myself and then nursing him again... He was 9 lb 2 oz but he was

voraciously hungry all the time - now he doesn't eat ;-( But I don't worry

as he is 12. He did not spit up but my daughter did and she would only

spit up at night when she was sleeping - I would keep him as upright as

possible after (and during) feeding.

some babies need cereal early. mine did, i cant tell you that is right for your

baby, my pediatrcian was ok with it as long as we didnt start any other solids

to soon b/c of allergy possibilities w early foods intro. it is waaaaaay to

early to know this but there is a syndrome more commonly associated with ds is

willy prader syndrome in a nut shell it means the necessary brain stimulas isnt

there to let them know they are full, so they eat until they vomit. could just

be the stress of looking for a house and the baby feels it. best of luck

My middle son could not b/f because of poor muscle tone in his mouth, lips and

tongue. He tried so hard to latch on and nurse that he'd get exhausted and end

up crying. Formula and milk made him congested, so he ended up on goat's milk

for a while.

Just a word about HMO's: There can actually be a few good doctors in an HMO

network; finding them is the problem. If you know anyone else who has your HMO,

ask if they know a good pediatrician. I've often thought about asking the

medical assistants who work there who is a good doctor -- not just a nice

doctor, but a knowledgeable and thorough doctor who cares.

Case in point: My brother has our same HMO and he is very happy with his doctor

because he asks questions and then he actually listens and helps. Even though

this doctor was closed to new patients, I asked my brother to ask him if he

could take on my husband (who was very unhappy with his rush-in-and-rush-out

doctor) and my oldest son, who was new to the HMO. Doc said yes, and both got

signed up with this rare gem in an HMO!

Hope you get your son to a doctor soon. Hang in there, with a hungry baby and

two wild girls. It's only temporary....

Darlene, All of my kids breastfed like that. Is that indicative of a feeding

problem? I literally could not go anywhere because they were ALWAYS attached.
