Ty and all, as I see it, the Medicaid issue is one of the most, if not the most, important issue facing CATS right now. We need to be able to bill Medicaid whether we are working in an institution or in private practice. I would urge all the CAT boards to put work into this. It is still not clear to me why my license IS getting reimbursed from Medicaid (at the Ackerman Institute for the Family-mostly a social work agency) but in most situations we are not. Anyone know the answer?Debbie Stone, DMT-BC, LCATSent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: NYCCAT Date: Sun, 1 May 2011 23:20:08 -0400To: <NYCCAT >ReplyTo: NYCCAT Subject: Re: Creative Arts Therapy IEP's Hello Lina, Et al.,While I don’t have any leads for you, I do work Part-Time in a Children’s Day Treatment program and have been disappointed to learn that LCATs are not eligible for reimbursement under the NYS’s Medicaid in Education Program (nor general Medicaid reimbursement). At this time (and in my understanding), only Social Workers (either LSWs or LCSWs) and Psychologists are eligible for Medicaid reimbursement (in MH services). I would love to hear from the NYCCAT board and others in regard to concrete steps that LCATs could take to challenge this, as it significantly and negatively impacts our ability to compete in the market and restricts the positions that we are eligible to apply and contract for. In other states in which I am licensed and have worked (PA and VT) all of the Master’s-level clinicians generally compete on the same level (and I have worked side-by-side with LCSWs in the same service lines). Is there something about NYS Social Work programs which would garner them this status equal to Licensed Psychologists which is significantly different from LCATs, LMHCs, etc.? Is there a channel in which we could have this legally reviewed?Lina, you are welcomed to contact me off-line if you believe I could be of assistance.Best,TyTy Tedmon-, MA, LCAT, LMHC, BC-DMTADTA Research Subcommittee ChairpersonContact: ttedmonj@... Hi All,I currently run an organization which provides creative arts therapy services to special needs children in the NYC area. We are currently working on adding Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Dance Movement Therapy Services to children's IEP's in NY schools. I was wondering if anyone has had success with this or connected with schools to contract services? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.Best,Lina Lina Meza-Murillo, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT,CCLSLicensed Creative Arts Therapist/ Certified Child Life SpecialistARTS Rx, LLC www.ARTSRX.com(917) 596-8517
