Guest guest
Michele, I don't know if you saw my post last week when I was informing one of our members about Lyrica. In case you didn't see it, I'm going to copy/paste my thoughts about Lyrica here. I'm afraid of it for a very good reason. Everyone's different, but no will will ever convince me to go on it. If you continue to stay on it long-term, I hope you don't suffer the consequences that I'm currently experiencing. Here is the message I posted last week about it under another thread: deLadyBex, I felt the need to inform you that Lyrica is also an anti-seizure medication. I was on anti-seizure meds for 36 years and am suffering the serious consequences of being on them long-term. Seizure meds relax the body and the brain and are often very good for pain. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you to beware being on any anti-seizure med for an extended period of time. Thankfully, I've had brain surgery and have been off of all anti-seizure meds since 1994, but I will forever suffer the consequences. I have bone damage (osteomalacia) and bad short-term memory damage from them. My teeth began breaking/chipping in my 30s because of the damage. I now have 10 gold crowns and many fillings in my mouth because of the decay. I don't smoke, drink, or use recreational drugs, and every bit of the damage to my teeth has been caused by seizure medicines. My rheumatologist explained that I have ligament damage throughout my body because of them. My ligaments ache badly. I was diagnosed with leaky gut syndrome last year, which caused fibromyalgia. I was told the leaky gut syndrome was caused from the heavy metal content in my body (due to all the tooth decay from seizure meds). Thankfully, I have found something besides the Lyrica for my pain. It's called Original Limu. It's a seaweed that contains malic acid, which is very good for fibro pain. It's helped tremendously and my doctor has instructed me to stay on it. Since I've been off of all seizure meds since 1994, you could not pay me to go on Lyrica and do further damage to my body. Please be careful about going on Lyrica for a long time. My rheumatologist said, " NOW we know the long-term side effects of seizure medications that we didn't know back in the 70s or 80s when you were taking them. They seemed to be doing no harm at all, and look at you now. " If you can find any natural pain killers (like malic acid or Original Limu), you would be much better off. My doc said people with fibro need 1000 mg of malic acid a day to help control their pain. This is just FYI from someone who is suffering consequences. Jackie > > Hi. Guest guest
Jackie, Thanks for the advice. I'll definately be talking to my doctor about this. Sounds like you've had quite an ordeal. I hope things continue to get better for you. Hugs, Michele --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
One more side-effect that I failed to mention... I don't know how old you are or if you're married or not. But along with slowing down the brain activity, nerves, reflexes, and our muscular system, anti-seizure meds also slow down a person's libido. I was on them when I married and thought, " THIS is what I've waited for all my life?????? Duh, what's the big deal? " There was a 360-degree turn for the better when I got off anti-seizure meds in 1994. Once again, you couldn't pay me to get back on them. This might be TMI for some people, but when you're married, a dead libido can be a major problem. Yes, things are much better for me now. I've found something called Original Limu that is helping control 95% of my fibro pain. It's great. No, this is not a sales pitch because I don't sell it. But I'll never be without it now. Good luck, Michele. Jackie > > Jackie, > Thanks for the advice. I'll definately be talking to my doctor about this. Sounds like you've had quite an ordeal. Guest guest
I've been on Lyrica for several months now. It has really helped to relieve the pain. I called it my new best friend for quite some time... until recently. I've read very bad things about this drug so I'm researching the herbal route. It has caused weight gain, like I " need " more of that... lol. It also causes water retention. BUT, wow did it help relieve my pain. Well, I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck to you !
