How are your sinus infections treated? I think the reason that I am having to continue my nasal antibiotic spray treatment is due to my immune system being down as I have lost about 18 lbs. since last December. I do not have an appetite, am depressed from family situations and therefore do eat as I should. I eat healthy food and have for many years and have always been thin. However, now I am concerned about my weight loss and so are my doctors.

Thanks for your response.

Gidday Norma,

Once you have pseudo you generally have it for life. The only difference between colonization and infection is semantics.

At best we can only control pseudo. This is done by staying a healthy as we can and avoiding other infections. When are immunity is down the pseudo takes advantage of it and mulitplies. The problem with treating it regularly is that the anti biotics used may becoe useless against your strain. It only deserves treatment when it is really making you ill.

OK Norma it is not good news but you can live with it. I have had pseudo for nearly 20 years. Sinus and chest.

Cheerio

Hi Norma, I lost too much weight back in June when i ahd a shocking chest infection--had no appetite--i have become very food fussy with my dirty lungs--I can always eat yogurt--i started eating 1kg a day of full cream strawberry yogurt--it was all i could stomach at the time--still eating 500gms a day but i put the weight back on--i have pseudomonas as well --dont know if its in my sinuses--get occas sinus infection but have never had inhaled Ab's for it--my sputum is always greenish and yuck--when i go on AB's none at all after a day or so--the trick is to know when you need them--I'm not sure but the Dr's often leave the decision to me--I'm now trying to avoind Ab's as much as possible --cheers Del

Del,

Thanks for your response. My pulmonary doctor keeps me on the inhaled Tobramycin the last two weeks of each month in order to keep the pseudomonas under control. If I were not on it, I would have to go to the hospital. Since I am 70 years old and on Medicare health insurance, Medicare would prefer that I pay for the Tobramycin and stay out of the hospital as it costs them too much to put me in the hospital. The ENT only prescribes the antibiotic nasal spray when needed which is only about once a year and usually around November or December. The sinus surgery helped, but according to my allergist, I now have vasomotor rhinitis. With this condition irritants like pollution, change in weather, aerosol products and anything scented can cause my nose to swell which does not allow adequate sinus drainage. I cannot take a decongestant due to a heart condition. During the time of year that the heat is on in the house my nasal passages become dry which also contribute to this condition.

, You are so right. Your comments about Pseudomonas could not have been said better. I have not taken any antibiotics, (with the exception of one short five day course of Cipro. several months ago) for a year now. I have long periods of feeling fairly well and a few down periods of feeling not so fine in between. I am convinced that the bacteria enter a prolonged stage of dormancy between flare-ups. But then I am fortunate in that I don't have asthma to contend with. in Ca.
