Guest guest
You are only young, but you are one of life's survivors and we need people like you. I think you will one day realise that everything was meant to be, even though it does not seem like it at the time. Have you ever thought of writing professionally? The way you described sitting on the train with the sun going down, it seemed that you sure have a talent. I felt as if I could have been sitting next to you, with your wonderful description. Anyway, take care and if you do make the best seller lists, remember us!!! Frances Daly
Guest guest
Hope it turns out ok for you. I, as far as I know, only have IGA. As stupid as it sounds, although I don't believe in fate, I kinda feel these things happen for a reason. Now I am not saying that we are cursed or doomed to be sick forever, instead, with each breath that enters our bodies, we are living. Living can be defined in many ways. Most people probably die before they realise that they are living. I think we are the lucky ones. We do have these " demons " on our backs, but along with the pain and suffering comes a knowledge that as sick as we are, we are still alive. There are probably those that wish they could give up this " knowledge " if only they could become " healthy " again. Well, fair enough, but it doesn't change much. We are still all going to die. The only thing we can control is how we are going to live. I wake up each morning, trying my best no to sleep in too much (don't like wasting the time), and think " what is today going to bring? " . I guess this is the thing that is a bit dissapointing for me. With every person I meet, I change their lives, but I will never know how. No, I am not saying that I am a someone special. What I am saying is that as long as I live and interact with the people and the world around me things change because I am alive. In this way I have to belive that I am important. I will probably never know why, or who I have effected, by it warms me inside to know that I do. I could feel sorry for myself, thinking " why me?, " what did I do to deserve this?, but this wont change what has already happened. The saying, " if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger " is how I live. Everything in my life up to now, good and bad, has made me who I am. In this way, there is no time to wish you had, think you might've, dream you could've, say you should've, because you didn't. Instead I think of what I can, what I might, and what I will do. If you are sick, live. If you are not sick, live. If you are not happy now, live. If you are happy now, live.In living we make all the difference. And anyway........... thats my 2 cents worth. Guest guest
I occasionally have some " skipped " or irregular heartbeats when my potassium levels are either too low or too high. Seems to happen to me more with certain BP meds too. Chronic kidney disease is definitely associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Some of the things that can happen are due more to the high blood pressure than the kidney disease itself. For example, when I was first diagnosed with hypertension, I probably had had it for quite a while, because I had what they call left ventricular hypertrophy (which is enlargement and thickening of the left ventricle). It's a high risk factor for a heart stoppage. Now, more than a dozen years later, I don't have that anymore. It regressed with the proper blood pressure treatment. It's still borderline though, so I have to be careful about BP so it doesn't come back. Pierre question for all > Has anyone here with IgAN have any other problems besides the Kidneys? > I just saw my neph and he told me I have an iregular heart bit, in > other words it skips on the bits. Guest guest
Gee, where do I start when I talk about my health problems?!?! I'm a type 2 diabetic (even though I'm only 24 - I was diagnosed with it when I was 22), I've had high blood pressure since I was 17 (well, that's when it was picked up, anyway), I've had asthma since I was 13, and I've also had problems with Atrial Fibrillation since I was 20. I hate having so many health problems, but the way I try and think of it is that I've got them, I'm stuck with them, so I've got to try and deal with them. > Has anyone here with IgAN have any other problems besides the Kidneys? > I just saw my neph and he told me I have an iregular heart bit, in > other words it skips on the bits. Guest guest
Well, besides my personal problems; I just find out that my little cousin was born with one kidney and it looks like my other cousin who is 13 yrs old might have IgAN too. My grandmother have cancer in her mouth, and my best friend just die in the WTC on 9/11. I was half way in my studies to be an air traffic controler(I was in the US Navy) but they discharge me because of my IgAN and my fiancee is in a aircraf carrier somewhere in the other side of the world(he can't even tell me where he is) I also have patellar tendonitis on my left knee from a knee injury that happened 1 year ago and it hurts so bad that going to a mall and walking around it is the most painfull thing I have to do, and my doc wants to do surgery on my knee which I don't want because the surgery it's very painfull too. And now my heart it's skipping around bits!! All of this have been happing in the last 8 months!!! I only say When is it going to stop!! Guest guest
Opps! I forgot I also have high BP my hieght is 5 " . I weight 100 pounds and I'm only 22 yrs old, 7 months ago my BP was 156/110 . After 4 different BP medications I finally founded one that works for me, now my BP is 130/100 I have to go and see my doc every 2 weeks for my BP and for the labs every 2 months. The goal for my BP is no higher than 120/70 and I'm working on it with medication, working out and diet(the working out part is very painfull because of my knee) Anything else you like to know? Guest guest
Sorry to hear you're having such a string of problems Jeimy. You know, most skipped hearbeats are harmless (they still need to be checked out by a doctor though). With all the problems you're having, maybe stress is the culprit. Skipped heartbeats aren't really skipped. What happens is that two beats come a little too close together, and then, the heart gets back into normal rhythm by waiting a little longer until the next normal beat comes along. We sense that as a " skipped " hear beat. Sometimes, you can get a string of 4 or 5 of these in a row. Anxiety or stress can definitely cause that. These are calles " extrasystoles " , and are considered to be completely harmless. A bit of exercise can help banish them, but as I said, do mention it to your doctor to make sure that's all it is. Guest guest
You will probably need to have another BP med added to the one you're already on. Your BP is still too high. If this is allowed to go on for a long time, it could really shorten the life of your kidneys. It's not an emergency for a few days or weeks though. Most people who have IgAN and high blood pressure end up needing more than one med. Pierre Re: question for all > Opps! I forgot > I also have high BP my hieght is 5 " . Guest guest
I saw my doc about a week ago. He gave me another medication. This Tuesday I have to go back to see him for my labs and my BP, He told me that I might need another BP medication too. Guest guest
I was taking lisinopril 10mg, but since last week I'm taking lisinopril 30mg. Lisinopril it's doing better than the other ones, maybe what I need is just a higher dose. Jeimy > What meds are u taking??? Guest guest
Probably, you are right. I took 5mg, then 10mg, then 5mg, now 30mg before everything was good for me. >From: jeimym@... >Reply-To: iga-nephropathy >To: iga-nephropathy >Subject: Re: question for all >Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 06:41:48 -0000 > >I was taking lisinopril 10mg, but since last week I'm taking >lisinopril 30mg. I believe that at this stage of kidney function, potassium levels can change quite rapidly if too much potassium is ingested. Attached is a link to a site about hyperkalemia. Guest guest
Believe it or not, higher doses of the same med often don't yield more than a couple of points more BP lowering than the normal recommended maintenance dose. It's worth a try though, that is, to go to the maximum recommended dose. Of course, that always seems to come with maximum side effects also.
