Can anyone out there, with children over 18.... tell me their experience

with SSI....

I know we were on it years ago, when he was tiny, and then were suddenly

told we had too many assets, and I never cared to look into it again.

But here he is... about to turn 18 years old, and I'm wondering again...

how it works for an adult, would he qualify, if they still give the run

around.... etc....

Thank you!

Hi Angel,

Once he turns 18, is legally an adult, his own entity so to speak,

and your income and assets are no longer applicable to his financial status,

so you should apply.

Yes, there are a lot of " rules " you have to learn about. They will ask a

lot of questions, and the amount he receives will depend on any other income

(work?) and his living arrangements. It would behoove you to consult with any

local agency that helps navigate the system. For example, I have heard that

when they try to ascertain how much you " contribute " if he lives with you,

that you can refuse to answer when asked what your rent or house payment is,

but I don't know if that's true! There are experts out there. Start a new

binder!
