It can be use as a warm up, as a piece of action/therapeutic exploration or as closure. It is extremely flexible. It can concretize anything or anybody. It brings the work immediately into the here and now. The purpose of the Empty Chair is to: Encourage Expression Explore/clarify multiple parts of self or others Facilitate Role Reversal Concretize choices and options Role Train The Empty Chair can be use to represent a person, a relationship, a role, a part of the self, one's strengths or one's defenses, a metaphor or an entity such as a higher power or one's disease. Participants will learn ways to use the Empty Chair in working with the various phases in the life of a group. Some of those ways include how to: Integrate a new group members Assist in group building Warm group up to issues of common concern Address specific issues both psychodramatically and sociodramatically Address conflict in the group Facilitate closure In addition, participants will learn how to use this powerful tool in working with individuals through the use of: Role reversal Doubling Concretization Spatial constructs Self doubling Role training Inner dialogue work Surplus reality Students at all levels of experience are welcomed. ACCOMMODATIONS: Affordable overnight accommodations are available. CEUs: 7 hours towards certification by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry & Group Psychotherapy; National Association for Drama Therapy; and the American Society of Experiential Therapy. When clients come to us, they have often exhausted the words or behaviors that they have been using to try to communicate. Psychodrama offers creative ways to help people explore the issues they bring in and help them to design different ways to negotiate for what they want in the relationship. In this workshop, participants will learn ways to help their clients: understand the other's viewpoint safely express feelings explore individual and shared expectations of the role of partner respond more effectively to their partners identify the "ghosts" that pop up between people and get in the way of true communication slow down their conflict so each can know he/she is heard and understood.
