Dear Chrissi,

It is great to meet you. Like your little girl, I also

have CF. Mine is an atypical form that primarily

effects my lungs and sinuses. Some specialists

disagree that I have CF and say that I have a CF-like

disease, but I had a nasal potential difference test

(NPD) done and it proved the CF diagnosis. Over the

years, sweat tests had been in the negative and

borderline range, and genetics did not do the

comprehensive screen for all mutations. Now there are

over 1030+. Thank goodness for the NPD test. I do have

some digestive problems, but they are very mild and I

do not need to take enzymes. Weight is also at this

time in the normal range. At any rate, I am pleased

that your daughter’s cultures came back with one

bacterium only. On the other hand, please keep an eye

on things. MRSA can turn into a nasty pneumonia and

has done a great deal of lung damage to my own lungs.

It is also a key reason that I now need new lungs.

Many people do perfectly fine with MRSA, but it can be

just as nasty as psuedomonas and cepacia for some of

us. Its just important to keep on top of things and if

you notice your little one having an increase in

mucous, feeling more tired than usual, having fevers,

etc.... please get her to the CF clinic, ASAP and

insist that the MRSA be treated if it should cause any

lung flare-ups.

I will be thinking about your other little girl and

hoping that her hand is much better soon without the

need for surgery.

Do you know Morey by any chance? She is a

friend. Her daughter has CF. Maybe might

join us on the bronchiectasis list. If you see her

bumping around the others lists say “hi” to her and I

will be in touch with her soon.

Thanks everyone for your congratulations, although it may all be a bit

premature. (Hope not though!)

Like I said, even it if doesn't happen, I am just so thrilled to have gotten

this far, and will try again sometime down the track. You just never know

what little surprises lie ahead.

Oh Chrissy, what a blow for

the daughter with the sore hand, I hope you can

get her in

quick, as that can be a problem if not seen to ASAP, although

with a

break, you have to wait 4-7 days I think.

As for the

magnesium, yes its a wonderful thing, and great to hear the

youngest is

doing better, although the staph she has is hard to knock out

too, good

luck with it,

Sandy

Hi , Thank you for the heads up. I am also sorry that you have

to deal with it also. Nobody shoud have to but I guess there is a

plan for all of us. I will keep you in my thoughs and hope that you

get your new lungs. Isnt it funny how the docs just sometimes cant

agree. They all look at the same test but all see it differently. We

got an appointment for Wednesday for my 13 year old daughter. I have

my fingers crossed that she wont need surgery but I also dont want

her to have a crazy finger ( I have one from childhood not be fixed

properly). Oh by the way we have treated the MRSA just to see if

that what was causeing the drop in PFT's. She was on IV Vancomycin

for 5 weeks and there was no improvement. So right now the MRSA is

not being troublesome. I dont think I have met brenda yet, but will

be happy to meet her.

Take care

Thanks Sandy. I also use a few of those tricks. Some I havent

thought of so thanks. I also add a few drops of lemon oil in my

carpet shampoer. Leaves a freash scent behind. I dont use bleach at

all because Alyssa really is sensitive to it, but that is a good way

to do it. I try really hard to only use natural products, because I

guess I have become a lil anal retentive about chemicals. But with

all the research I have done it just really seems like the wises

move especially with young children and 1 with compromised lungs.

Anything I can stop from getting into her lungs.. I will.

Take care and thanks again
