Guest guest
Pamela, Megase has been wonderful for my MIL. Don't think she would be with us today without it. Hope this helps, Patti > > Just popping in real quick (still have not caught up on e-mails....sigh....) > to ask if anyone has had any experience with megesterol? Guest guest
Hi Pamela, Mom was given Megase when she was in the hospital for behavioral evaluation in late January/early February of this year. It took a couple of days to work, but then she became ravenous...if food wasn't ready when she got the hunger it was bad news. She gained about seven pounds in a week (from 80 to 87) so after a couple weeks I decreased to once per day. Her appetite stayed good for a short while and then when she stopped eating much I started at twice a day again. It didn't help too much that time. That was shortly before her hospital stay four weeks ago and then they gave me a prescription for it again. The doctor specifically told me that it works to stimulate the appetite but people can have problems from prolonged use. In my mom's case, her recent decrease in appetite was due to her body shutting down for the final sleep. If there were any adverse effects from the Megase, I wouldn't know what they were. Guest guest
This hasn't been discussed before - nothing was found in the archives. There's clinical studies being done now on it's use for those with dementia - that I found on Google... And here's a link to a discussion about it on a different board. As w/ all meds start low, go slow... And hopefully you'll respond positively and I'll add it to the links http://alzheimers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/960108781/m/4971045061 http://www.aafp.org/afp/20001115/tips/8.html http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00503516?term=mind+body & rank=66 > > Just popping in real quick (still have not caught up on e- mails....sigh....) > to ask if anyone has had any experience with megesterol?
