Hello NYCCAT group, I believe this question/topic has been raised before but in hopes that I may have luck at a clear answer I will ask again. Can anyone help me find out if there is a way to transition between Art Therapy into Education settings, via my Masters degree- Can credits be transferred and allowed by the state (perhaps for certification)? This has been a desire of mine to explore, and partly because Arts Therapy positions have been difficult to find, I'm trying to be creative. Thank you kindly for any input. Marina

Hi Marina,

I graduated with my masters in Art Therapy in 2009 and was unable to find a job.

I applied for the New York City Teaching fellows program and was accepted. I am

now working full time as a special education teacher with a population that

benefits greatly from an art based curriculum. There are other alternative paths

that you can get more info about if you go to 65 Court Street to the Board of Ed

building. You may have to take some additional courses. Also charter schools may

be able to hire you as an art teacher with your word that you will complete

necessary course work. I hope this is helpful. Good luck.
