About the Facilitators

Simms, storyteller, author, and activist has devoted her life to discovering and developing the power of living narrative to transform and heal. She has worked worldwide with organizations as varied as Norwegian People's Aid, OvidiuRom, Search for Common Ground, and Mercy Corps, Inc; She has studied with storytellers, epic singers and healers in the ines, Africa, Nepal, Romania and Northwest Coast Salish elders. Her storytelling  performances are legendary combining myth and memoir. Presently, she is working on a book about myth and memory called HOW TO FIND ROMANIA. She teaches worldwide and is part of Catalyst Arts, Inc. Most recently, she performed at the Barbican Theater in London and the Gorge Theater in Northern Vermont. She is a senior teacher of Shambhala Buddhist mediation practice. Her most recent award was the Brimstone Grant for Applied Storytelling 2009. 

L. Nash, LCAT, has been a leader in the field of therapeutic theater for twenty-five years, during which time she has developed a unique approach of integrating drama therapy with the principles and practice of modern analytic group psychotherapy. She is currently the Director of Supervision and Training for the ArtReach Foundation, where she works internationally with educators, mental health professionals, and children in war torn countries, and domestically has co-created an integrative therapeutic arts project with returning veterans. She is the Director of Clinical Supervision for the Creative Alternatives of New York. Ms. Nash has presented her work extensively nationally and internationally, and has published her work with traumatized youth. She has a private practice in NYC.
