hi.. all.. my gentle 15 year old.. easy going son... has now has issues with

growing up.. from what he says.. he tells me... NO.. grow up.. grow down...

measure down. He pairs this up with asking me over and over.. " is thomas the

tank engine for big kids or little kids? he says.. he is not a big boy.. a

little boy... ok.. the problem here he escalates if his teachers don't validate

this.. he is highly anxious and I suspect seeking reassurance that his

beloved toys and characters will be with him to ease his anxiety. He gets very

" spooked " lately.. obessiing over fires... crashes.. and this will result in

him refusing to get on or off the van to his summer program and scaring to

death the driver. To top it off.. he is now going after teachers and peers to

hit them. Today.. I lost van service to his summer program due to the driver

getting hit. I never experienced this with my son. Tantrums.. yes... but we

worked through them. His teacher in the fall.. he had her last year.. says.. the

change is being a teen.. and is struggling with growing up. His psychiatrist

whom he saw years ago... I called her and she said it sounds like

adolensence... and to work with him on growing up.. but yet.. when he has these

fits...

or escalates into screaming he wants to be a little boy... I can't help

wondering if it is a panic attack. His sister started them at age 15 and deals

with it... my mother has anxiety attacks .. really severe. HELP.... anything

natural I can start him on? he is a big kid at 200 lbs... thanks.. Lia

Hi.. just a few thoughts. If this has been sudden change, I would

personally not discount the " adolesence " advice but I would also rule

out gut bugs and metabolic imbalances-including any issues with diet.

Have you done an OAT or CSA since this happened or checked Aminos??

There are many naturals that work well for anxiety including 5HTP,

IP6, Inositol etc etc. You need to start anything low and slow and

make sure it combines with what you are using already or might add.

RX like oxytocin has helped many socially also but not all -somethign

else to explore with your son's doctor perhaps.

Some benefit from B6 and Magnesium and omegas which most children are

already taking. I am not sure what your child's protocol is but I'd

try to get with my DAN! and get some basic tests done to see if this

is something that could be corrected with supplementation, RX and/or

diet along with working behaviorially with the child. The aggression

can sometimes be bacteria related so it would be worth it IMHO to

explore all the basic options as you move ahead if you have not done

that already.

You and others with older children are such heroes and I wish you the

very best in figuring this out.

hi.. exactly... I hear him talking to himself.. about " teenager " ... " little

boy " ... last night.. he brought his trains downstairs... to the family room...

and said.. " christos is a little boy playing with his trains " ... he also

asked to watch the movie.. Night in the museum.. which we both did... laying on

the couch. yesterday at his day program... he hit 3 times at the end of the

day.. after a great day... I had told him that morning.. if you hit.. then no

mcdonalds. he gets the salads and fruit. well... I told him.. no mcdonalds

because you hit. Hitting is bad. He listened to his seventies music and kept

asking to go to mcdonalds.. I said.. no... you hit.. maybe on august 22.. we

will go to mcdonalds if you don't hit. He said.. NO AUGUST 22... AUGUST 15... I

said. no. you cannot hit. Well... he was annoyed but not upset. when we were

approaching the intersection of the golden arches.. he said.. " make right

turn " ... I said.. no... you hit your teacher. He was annoyed... a few minutes

later.. he said... mcdonalds on august 22... I told him.. that is right.. if

you don't hit your teachers. He was fine.. the rest of the night. This morning

he got up.. I work later in the day.. and he was banned from going to ride

the horse at his day program.. fearful of his high pitch screaming willl scare

the horses when he might have a melt down due to the big boy , little boy

validation seeking. anyway.. he got me up.. said. .hi mommy.. get up.. I said.

" why do you want me to get up " .. he said.. I want breakfast... he struggles

in answering why questions and I see a surge in this... I hope the hitting

stops... peace, Lia

not trying to be harsh, but depending on how they wash the knives, where they

cut the foods ect, and I believe the fruits are caoted with something to keep

them from turning brown that makes them not gfcf. this would account for my

child having fears or weird behavoirals. I was just trying to help you brain

storm on what could be making him this way. not trying to judge just

help.....have you looked at the Mcdonalds site to see what they have for

allergen warnings?

Re: sudden fear

he eats plain salad... and the fruit.. no yogurt... I am just asking for

thoughts... you sound very harsh.. Lia

I would introduce one at a time so you can tell what is working.

There are also combo supplements that have many of these ingredients.

Another thought. I have a friend who is treating her children via a

DAN doctor, both with anxiety issues. And she has had great success

treating them after they were both diagnosed with pyroluria. She

says they have made more progress over the past month then she has

ever seen. I am getting my daughter tested next week.

Your son sounds alot like my daughter in his speech mannerisms. She

went through a period starting a couple years back an lasting one

and off for a couple years where she would yell, " I want to be a

baby, waa waa!! Am I a big girl or a baby?! " When we answered " big

girl " , she would have a melt down. It was really bad for awhile,

with ongoing tantruming and melt downs. I think alot of it had(she

is 10 almost 11 now) We thought it had to do with her having

younger siblings who were getting alot of attention, especially her

brother still being a baby. It has kind of peetered off as they

have gotten older and started going to preschool and k-garten. I

think some of it was anxiety that she was going to school and the

sibs were home getting my attention. Or maybe it was because they

got alot of babyish stuff that she still enjoys playing with. Or it

could have been comparison anxiety as she could see she was older in

relation to them. I don't know but it rarely rears its head now. We

tried to give alot of hugs and reassurance, but it just made her

escalate further. Good luck on finding a solution!

I know the percentages are low, but for what it is worth, Valtrex was

the answer to our prayers for my son. He had became extremely paranoid

to the point that he could no longer function in a school setting, go

outside, or leave my sight in general. I know it may not be

associated, but then again, it could.

With our son, Valtrex worked like an overnight miracle.

You might consider giving it a try. If you don't see results with the

right dosage, in about a month, you probably will not see the dramatic

change we did.

Definitely worth a try though.
