American Kidney Fund Cautions Against Unwarranted Use of Cipro

ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Kidney Fund (AKF) is warning

Americans who may wish to take Cipro to use as a precautionary measure against

anthrax that they could be exposing their kidneys to serious harm. With numerous

reports that thousands of people are attempting to obtain the powerful

antibiotic by any means possible, the risk of Cipro misuse resulting in kidney

disease or kidney failure is increasing. There is no cure for kidney failure.

The only existing treatments are kidney dialysis and kidney transplantation.

Interesting and yet worrying. When it comes time for us to either go on

dialosis, or if we need a transplant, those people taking the pills will

make it hard for us to get the services we need. Not very impressed. I

realise that everyone is worried right now, but pescribing yourself drugs

has never been a good idea.

On the other hand, maybe if a greater pecentage of the population had some

form of kidney diesease, the amount of research dollars would most likly

increase. I naturally hope that more research is done, but not because

nervos people perscribed themselves drug to prevent Anthrax.

I thought I responded to this before, but I don't see it. The main

point I wanted to make was to caution people about taking Norafloxin.

When I took it, it caused me to be jittery, unable to sleep, pain in

the kidneys, decreased output, and considerable edema. The last 3

seemed to be that my kindeys were being damaged. I went back to the

neph and he changed my prescription to something else. If anyone here

is prescribed Norafloxin, I would advise you to be on the lookout for

these kidney-related side effects.
