Guest guest
can you tell WHY he is doing this, I am not trying to scare you but has someone hurt him when he was been separated from an authority figure, like physically or sexually??? does he have the vocab to talk to him about good touch bad touch? Anxiety Issues - What can help? My 4 year old son is having severe anxiety issues lately. One year ago, people around him didnt matter to him. After 1 year of biomedical intervention, he has now become a very sociable boy but lately has been having severe separation anxiety. The separation anxiety used to only be with me, his mom, then started expanding to other family members. Today, he had a meltdown in school, because he didnt want his teacher to leave the room while he was inside the classroom with his classmates. How can I help my son manage his anxieties? Are there any supplements he can take to help him with these issues? Guest guest
Hi Pam... I saw some of this with my son as he went through states of recovery. Many things can trigger this I think and it is also a normal stage of development for children of younger age. Not assuming this is the case with your son but with my little guy, he went through the normal developmental stages at later time as he got better. You mentioned more social awareness and I would think it may be possibility that he is experiencing some of the emotions and milestones that NT children face at a younger age. I also had to " desensitize " my child to social situations as he got more aware of his surroundings due to improved health. Things that did not bother him initially since he was somewhat in his own world, suddenly became overwhelming. It was a challenging time with lots of ups and downs as he adjusted to the real world again. You might read up on sensory issues if you have not since these seem to rear their ugly head with many children as they begin to rejoin the world after being in a more isolated world of their own. Also, there are quite a few supplements that seem to help many children. YOu might discuss some of those with your DAN! -like GABA, IP6 and /or Inositol etc. Also I'd check mineral levels and aminos and fatty acids. My son actually has responded well to Essential Glutathione for calming too-it does NOT do that for all but a few of us have seen that. You might also try to determine of something he is taking is triggering this.. we had some supplements that we had to cut back on as my son got better. If he had too much of something he might become agitated, hyper, anxious etc. The HARDEST thing to me about this journey was that there was not a roadmap that I could follow as we saw changes that could be attributable to a lot of things. We could test(and did) and my little guy had the best DAN! in the world in my opinion (Dr. JM!) but even with that each child is different and we had to work together to find what was triggering changes and that many times meant some trial and error to determine what he needed. Good news of that is that it showed that things were changing and ususally for the " good " -we just had to adjust and change with him. Other than diet and just getting good assessment to make sure you are not dealing with some type imbalance, I would reassure him and work with caretakers to see if this is a normal stage of development that is coming late.... all the time of course looking at supplements with your doctor that might help him through this. We did short " drills " where we would leave the room, come back seconds later when we told him we would etc (and expanded the time gone, warnings of leaving etc)... all of this helped. Also if you have toxicity issues, it may be triggering some changes so I'd again talk with my DAN!. FWIW, my NT five year old daughter just started getting upset at times when her babysitters leave. She has really bonded with them this summer and I think it is normal to want them to stay. Her socialization has greatly increased this summer and this is one thing that points to that. It was a welcome surprise for us in this case as she doesn't always bond with sitters and we have had quite a few personnel changes lately so I was happy to see her feeling close to these people. So I guess we all see some of this along the way at different times and it is especially evident when you've had a child who was not social due to ASD issues. I know about that... been there, done that. Hope it resolves soon and keep us posted. I'm sure others will have thoughts also! Guest guest
lots of people have good luck with it. It never helped my son and I tried it also (we are not biologically related btw) and it didn't help me either. We are all different and you might see good things so I'd definitely try it if my DAN! suggested it. Best of luck! > > > > > > > > > My 4 year old son is having severe anxiety issues lately. One > > year > > > ago, people around him didnt matter to him. Guest guest
Pam.. just wanted to mention that many foods are high in oxalates and that can cause any number of issues for some children. Most grains are high oxalate including the gluten free ones like quinoa, aramath, etc. Also many green leafy veggies and some other gf/cf/sf foods. You might keep this in mind as you try new foods and if you see a pattern, it might be oxalate issue that needs to be addressed. Hope you find the answers soon!
