Guest guest
Hi everyone, Cheryl thanks for your post about the bugs. It helps me to know that others went through this being told there is no infection when I know there is. It was suggested on Thursday I might want to see the asthma team phsyciatrist in case I am having panic attacks, I declined but now I've mulled on that do they think I'm bringing this on myself??? I laughed about Cheryl's comments about being tetotal and writing about wine, I love the stuff but cannot drink it any more as it makes me wheeze, just one tiny glass makes be cough and I used to be able to do a bottle. Yesterday I was so much better hardly coughed at all but today I woke and immediately knew something was up, wheezing again. I've gone over yesterday in my mind and identified 3 things, A chinese meal (monosodium glutamate?) I swam - chlorine? and dropped Prednisolone by 1 tablet. Trouble is I don't know which factor is the important one, guess I've just got to play detective until I find what it is. Had a lovely morning saw my wonderful physiotherapist for a massage and ultrasound on my ribs, has helped so much. Can only afford to go occasionally but what a treat, then I had a session with a chiropadist because my feet are splitting where the Pred has thinned my skin. Now going to swim so total bliss day off! Being ill sure makes you appreciate little things in life, I find now that even tiny things I used to take for granted now are so important. New philosophy in life for me is pace yourself, as you say Cheryl, if you are too sick it just has to wait. Love to all, June
Guest guest
Hi June, just to tell you that I too was told many years ago to see a psychiatrist, I was told several times by several specialsis, but only whilst an impatient, when I got out is was never mentioned, it too was because they couldn,t understand what was happening, and because I had had a nervous break down when I was 33, it seemed to be all that was on their minds. I moved away, and never told the new doctors about the breakdown, as i had had asthma since 21, and acute bronchitis all my childhood, so when I moved thats all I told them. I went through all the tests Xrays etc again, and finally had a pretty clear picture, however I did need nerve tabs( very lose dose) as each time I had a really bad attack, I would panick and get even worse, especially as each time , I was in ICU. Once on the pills they helped me to relax better , which also helped me to really learn how to breathe properly, which over time, reduced the amount of attacks, and the severith, because I learn,t to concerntrate on breathing, especially at the first sign of a wheeze. I knew the minute I began to wheeze, that I was getting either an asthma attack or an infectionn, so I would go into full alert. I did learn so much, while I don,t have any where near the probs now , that I had in the past, I stiil use all the same techniques etc, and I do still have on a paperbag, which was also part of my on hand things when I started to panick. I did get diagnosed with chronic anxiety and was treated for it with medication and breathing excersises, and it is only since I learnt well, my body and my nerves, as they all were part of the whole thing. Once you don,t allow yourself to get so upset, stressed, etc, and feel very confident that whatever happens " I will cope " and I won't die. I had a new lifestyle to learn, and I did master it all, after a couple of years. It takes that long, to jus be able to let the brain take over, and not the heart, when you are scared of being so ill. Any way, sometimes it does have a lot to do with the brain, not that we are nuts etc, just need to understand what really makes us tick( individually). I too love wine, and could easily drink a bottle or 2 with friends, but now, its lucky if I can drink 2 glasses in any one day at all.'And red wine, isn,t quite as aggressive on me as white wine, especially if its cask wine, too many preservatives in cask wine, I love chinese food, but I get the wheezes every time I eat it. I was able to eat it once a month or so out, but over the years I have learnt that it definately was the chines food, through an elimination process. I swim in chlorinated pool and that only has a slight affect, a few puffs of ventolin and I,m OK, but chinese food, it takes a day or so, of puffing or neb. Even thought hey say no MSG, they use other taste enhancers and colourings, that are the culprits. All have effects on most asthmatics. So I only have it probably twice a year, cos I do love it, and if I,ve been pretty good for long periods I treat myself to it. But I am trying to find something else to treat myself to, and steer clear of the Asian food shops, because lets face it our own home made, just doesn,t taste the same. Chinese( Cantonese) food, and any kind of seafood( fresh)has always been my favourite, and when the kids want to treat me they take me or surprise me with either Chinese , or Seafood( which now I,m deady allergic to). So now I can only have chinese, or find something that is equally worth being my big treat. Hard to beat either of these, so I.m on a mission at the present. Hope things get better for you, June. It gets depressing when you cannot find the answers doesn,t it. Well you can see I,m in a similar boat now, with something as simple as a darn treat. Must go, keep smiling, Sandy
Guest guest
Hi all, I was troubled with panic attacks for a number of years and saw a psychiatrist who also had them. After I wore two Holiter monitors, I was referred to a cardiologist and now am on medication. The psychiatrist who diagnosed panic attacks could not believe that my problem was due to my irregular, fast heartbeat. I still think I had panic attacks which could have been brought on by my heart condition. Norma
Guest guest
Hi Sandy and everyone...when I was going through panic attacks with my breathing I bought myself a couple of books...hyperventilation syndrome by Dinah Bradley....living with it..by Bev Aisbet...and self help for your nerves by Weekes.....the shrink only was interested in me bombing myself out all the time so I did it by myself having to also overcome agoraphobia.....I am stubborn and wasnt going to let it beat me...it took around 2 years and I could still have an attack now if I think about it...the idea is not to ven give it a thought...you wont die....slow pursed breathing throught the lips...I did 4 years tai chi and that also taught me to breath correctly......hugs Lee/victoria Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Guest guest
Norma I too have irregular heart beat, and angina( unstable)I too suffered for a few years with panic attacks etc, as you probably have read through some of my emails. Sandy, I think that the irregular heartbeat, panic attacks, asthma and bronch. were all connected in my situation. However, whenever I was having these, I did not know that I had bronch. or astham. Guest guest
Norma I too have irregular heart beat, and angina( unstable) I too suffered for a few years with panic attacks etc, as you probably have read through some of my emails. Lots of hard work to learn to breathe correctly was truly my only cure.Mind you , we are never cured of the, just know how to control them better, I am sure these things are often all related to bronch in some way, as is several types of asthma etc. I also have the feet break out of their skin , part of the thinning skin process related to the steroids over many years, hair tyninning too. Just another lot of grouped things I suppose. Its amazing how so many of us in the group have very similar problems, similar ideas, and then the other side where so many have such different ideas, but we all respect and think of each others views. I think this site is a real learning experience. Wonerfully diverse lot, yet all have one thing in coomon, " Sharing and caring " The wine thing too, we all seemed to like a glass, yet some can only have a white, and others a red. I had to force myself to like medium dry red. Still only a galss or 2 at most. over 4 hrs. I cannot get a swet drink past my lips, and a dry past my nose to get to my lips. Cna push myself with 1 very good white, but 1 is it. Must go, back tonight to answer several emails. keep happy, and try and keep well. Sandy Have a bit to say about those massage pillows and mattresses, I have both, and they are great for certain things, but aggrevate some. Bye again, Sandy
