Guest guest
Its been a while since we talked about VitC...sorry to those who have heard this before! It seems that many people here have had improvement with bruising etc with Vit C. However, please be careful about what you take with your other medications. Even a seemingly harmful substance like Vit C can cause troubles. Vitamin C improves your body's ability to absorb other medications. This sounds great at face value...until you consider the effect this can have upon your body. For example, if you take blood pressure medication, and it suddenly starts to work more effectively, then your blood pressure could become too low or too high. The problem continues if you stop taking the vitamin C suddenly after taking it for a while. your body has become used to the level of medication you are receiveing, and if your medication suddenly isnt absorbed as well as it has been, this can cause problems. My doctor warned me of this when I was on the pill...she said if you are taking Vit C and the pill, and you stop taking the Vit C, then the pill can become less effective and you can have breakthrough bleeding or even become pregnant. I'm not saying dont take it! However, you really should check with your pharmacist before taking anything extra to your current medications, and also discuss the effects that different amounts can have...there is a sturation point with things like this, and taking extra is a waste of money and potentially harmful. Guest guest
Good warning, Glenda. Vitamin C is not a problem for me because I don't take any other medications. Thanks for posting this info. I think it is important to remind everyone to always consult a doctor about possible interactions of supplements and medications. -Barb
