Just curious... did your doctor not discuss with you why they were giving this? It seems it would be hard to tell if something is helpful if you aren't told why it is being used and the improvements you would hope to see with it. Not at all meaning this to be rude but just curious how you can gauge the response to share with the doctor if there is not discussion of why something is given (and with Secretin it can be several reasons). Dr. JM always talked to me about why were were embarking on new treatment so this seems foreign to me I guess. I, like you, would definitely not want to start any new treatment without good understanding of it and before researching it (which is what you are doing of course!). Guest guest Posted July 4, 2007 Report Share Posted July 4, 2007 Hi , No worries, I understand where you are coming from..Our Dan Dr. (man of very few words) recently prescribed Secretin to my daughter because she could not digest meats and fats. My daughter also could not tolerate enzymes and probiotics. I was informed by Wellness that Secretin nasal spray only has a life of 3 weeks. Since I don't live in the US, the clock starts ticking after it leaves the US. Barring unforseen events like customs delay, we would only have 2 more weeks before it expires. I am hoping that the transdermal version will be more stable, and will be just as effective. I've tried to google " Secretin Nasal Spray/Transdermal " but I could not find relevant information regarding its use. Guest guest Posted July 4, 2007 Report Share Posted July 4, 2007 If you're carrying the new CSB with you, there is some info on secretin on pages 101-105. However, the different forms are not discussed. Most of us agree that the optimum is IV secretin as a test to see if the child is a responder (about 25% of kids under 4 are responders, less as they get older). I used to give the first dose IV and then change most kids to the transdermal form. I found that if they were a responder to the IV they were good responders to the transermal form. However, it is expensive and the IV is invasive. In the last few years I have stopped using it completely - I don't believe I have ever used the form of nasal spray, so can't really give any info about it. I do recall some parents saying their kids did get responses from the nasal sprays, and others not, same as with the transdermal. Kids who are sensitive probably would prefer the transdermal over the nasal form, and I think like so many other things it is a trial and error situation and each parent has to discover just what his/her child will specifically respond to. I have not heard of any bad reactions, but quite a few " no reactions.
