Guest guest
Dear Joe The problem with long-term antibiotics is that you will almost certainly develop candida. The antibiotics will kill off all the good bacteria in your gut allowing the bad (candida) bacteria to take over. The symptoms of candida are very much like FMS so your problems will simply intensify. The gut and immune system are so heavily implied in FMS, I would suggest you read up on leaky gut syndrome and candida before you consider further the use of antibotics long-term. Best wishes Carole
Guest guest
I am glad you added the " almost " , because not everyone gets candida. I have been on antibiotics for 3 years and still have no candida. In fact, others have found their candida goes away with certain antiboiotics, such as doxycycline. It has antifungal properties. Likewise, I have been measured for leaky gut and it is fine. You are correct though in that it can be a risk. Thanks, Doris ----- Original Message ----- From: carolehux@... Guest guest
Dear Doris Thanks for your email. It is when you come off a prescription anti-biotic or anti-fungal that the damage becomes evident. I think it is incorrect if a doctor does not warn you of the dangers of a drug long-term before a person commences. I have read that anti-fungals do treat very effectviely candida. But one anti-fungal will not kill off all the bad bacteria. Some always remain resistant. Whilst candida will improve during courses of anit-fungals, when you come off an anti-fungal, the hardier bacteria grow with a vengance and the patient then needs to go back on them. Many who have FMS and CFS suffer with leaky gut and candida and long-term use of anti-biotocs can surpress the immune system. In my experience doctors do not give you the full picture and you have to find out a lot of these facts for yourself. Carole
Guest guest
I am shopping for a new doc. I 4 lined up and i would like to call and get a feel as to what Im in for. They are all certified Endocrinologists, and Internal Medicine specialists. Is that what I should have been looking for? Im not sure what I should do but I figure its gonna go kinda like a car sale...lol. He is the seller and Im the buyer, hes gotta sell me on the idea. I was wondering what all of you think I should ask him. Before I make my decision to take one of them as my primary care physician? What is it that I am looking for? Guest guest
I don't get what you are saying. You are talking about antifungals killing bacteria (which they do not do). So I'm having trouble making sense of the whole thing. Anyway, yes, people should know it is a possibility that their guy could be damaged, they should be looking out for symptoms, they should be periodically tested for candida and leaky gut, they should be taking probiotics. But they should also know that not everyone has a problem with candida from being on antibiotics. Thanks, Doris ----- Original Message ----- Dear Doris Thanks for your email. Guest guest
Dear Doris Antifungals kill off the bacteria Candida Albicans. It's one of their prescriptive uses. Carole
Guest guest
Dear Doris In all the books that I have read about candida (and I have read quite a few now), it is described as one of the 40 odd bacteria living in the gut. It is a yeast bacteria and anti-fungals DO kill it off. I am not confused! Carole
Guest guest
Hi I think you are confused. Candida is a yeast / fungus, not a bacteria. Thanks, Doris Re: antibiotics for fibromyalgia Dear Doris Antifungals kill off the bacteria Candida Albicans. It's one of their prescriptive uses.
