Guest guest
And some kids have very low titers with many symptoms - it depends on when they get the test in the course of the infection. I personally would treat the child and not the test result, though it is great when the child is showing symptoms and the test verifies why. Why did you get the test in the first place? Guest guest
We just switched DAN! doctors. We had our first appointment with Dr. DeMio in early May and it was one of the tests that he requested - streptozyme. We will speak with him on Friday about all of the test results he ordered. The other tests all looked good except for low serine, slightly low neutrophils and eosinophils, and slightly high monocytes. The white blood cells are closer to ref. range than they were 2.5 years ago when we started. Yeast and bacterial counts are off too. We are hopeful that Dr. DeMio can resolve the remaining issues. My son is doing great....sensory and transitional issues are gone, processing delay is gone. Spoken speech is delayed a year, receptive is fine. LDN does wonders for social skills. Most people don't know he has autism, they would be shocked if I told them. He is so beautiful. --------------------------------- Ready for the edge of your seat? Guest guest
Yes, My daughter's titers were only around 250 ... and yet she has tourettes that seem to come on just 1 week after a strep infection...and two weeks after her DPT/HIB booster... Our DAN is treating her for PANDAS although the titers weren't huge ... She is being treated in many of the same ways as her twin ASD brother ... and her Tourettes has significantly gone away. I'd say she is now just five months later already 80 to 85 percent better. She is no longer having sleep issues ... and her tics are now only about one every 10 to 15 minutes rather than every couple of seconds... The tics themselves are also less pronounced. Her head use to shake so bad it hurt ... but now it is slight... and doesn't cause her pain.... Her severe gut issues are much much better and she is even able to eat some foods without issue now (along with digestive enzymes...) She has always been otherwise neurotypical ... but she has soo many of the same issues as my son. She is otherwise healthy as a bug too. It amazed me though when her food intollerance panel came back almost as bad as her brother.... because he is so severely affected by autism... and her heavy metal load was almost as bad... I guess she is lucky she doesn't have his high testosterone levels or she probably would have been as affected by autism as he is ... She has no autistic traits... just tics. Guest guest
What is the protocol for treating PANDAS? Our previous doc ran several tests that all came back negative and so said ds doesn't have PANDAS, however he always has strep bacteria in his stool samples, and he is extremely painfully OCD. The only time the OCD backed off is on a round of Vanco. His OCD went down by like half, he was so great that month, great sleep and more. But once off the Vanco it all came right back despite tons of probiotics. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Is PANDAS primarily treated with antibiotics? Seems like you'd have to stay on them for a very long time... at least likely in my son's case! > > > > > My son's strep test just came back. It was 954 with > > > ref. range of 0- > > > 150. Guest guest
There is no consensus recommendation for PANDAS. Some docs do not like antibiotics, and use IVIG or Plasma Exchange. Many do use antibiotics, and prefer weekly bicillin, (IM penicillin) - less intestinal exposure and killing off the good bacteria in the gut with the shots for three-six weeks or more depending upon symptomology. Unless a child has had penicillin/amoxicillin/augmentin exposure of recent, or history of penicillin reaction, many prefer using bicillin. If under 60 lbs, the dose of Bicillin is 60,000U. the dose doubles above 60lbs. If recently or multiple times had taken a penicillin, a cephalosporin such as duricef or keflex may be used. If penicillin/cephalosporin allergic, most would use the high dose regimen of zithromax, which is 12mg/kg qD for 5 days. Dr. JM --- wrote: > What is the protocol for treating PANDAS? Guest guest
, our PANDAS workup was negative, but my son also develops OCD when he has strep in his gut. An extended course (3 weeks, I think) of amoxicillin wipes out the OCD - we have had to use the amoxicillin two different times with him. I think vanco is overkill for strep. good luck > > > > > > > My son's strep test just came back. It was 954 with > > > > ref. range of 0- > > > > 150. Guest guest
It is wonderful your son is doing so well. Would you mind telling all of us what protocols/ therapies have been helpful in his recovery? Also, specifically how did LDN help your son socially? Thanks very much!
