Guest guest
A question was asked about thoughts and help from lyrica for neuropathy. I was neurontin for about two years and as the dosage was increased I found myself very unsteady, started using a walker in the house and a friend loaned me an electric chair. Then lyrica was introduced and I had to slowly decrease the neurontin and increase the lyrica. I have now been on the lyrica for nearly two years (75mg) 2 to 3x's daily. I find that by waiting until around 3PM to take my first one then about 8PM and have one by my bed to take around 2AM it is working great. If I get the electric shocks or start being very uncomfortable then I will take one even if it has only been 2 hours. I am finally getting the relief I need. Now of course I am on stronger pain meds and duragesic patches every two days but this was started before the lyrica. For me it has been a life saver. I can even drive to the store and buy groceries. I do need to sit down when I get home but the discomfort lets up. My neuropathy is in my feet but will go up my legs a few hours after going to bed. I guess it is a matter of trial and error on what amount and when to take it is personal. I like a clean house so work 15min. or get a meal then sit down for an hour if necessary. When riding for a long trip I put a pillow under my feet so they do not feel the vibration of the car. This is what helps me and hope it helps someone else. I do have a question for anyone. Does anyone find that higher altitude bothers you more. We just came back from Denver and it definitely bothered me. As we stayed longer it did get better but for about four days, it was unbearable. Thanks, Lois
Guest guest
hi lois, i also was on neurontin, the dosage kept getting higher and higher but the pain was still there so the drs put me on lyrica about a yr ago . i started out with 50mg then it was bumped up to 75mg every 6-8 hrs and now i'm up to 100mg . i do believe the alltitude would have an effect on nerve pain i know barrometric pressure effects my nerve pain. whenever my pain worsens i check the barometric pressure and sure enough it has dropped below 30 which means another storm is on it's way and the air pressure is getting heavier which puts more pressure on our whole nervous system and body. i understand about the vibration also my husband is hard of hearing and he has the t.v blairing which i feel the vibration from it in my fingers i about go ballistic because the pain intensifies so much . take care gail > > A question was asked about thoughts and help from lyrica for neuropathy. > > I was neurontin for about two years and as the dosage was increased I found myself very unsteady, Then lyrica was introduced and I had to slowly decrease the neurontin and increase the lyrica. > > I have now been on the lyrica for nearly two years (75mg) 2 to 3x's daily. > > For me it has been a life saver. Guest guest
The effects of Lyrica vary greatly, as they do with any drugs meant for nerve-pain relief. Some people experience serious side-effects, which can include extreme mood swings, but some people have no side effects at all--it really depends on the individual. You should begin with a very low dose, and slowly increase the dosage. There's really no way of knowing how you will react to the drug until you take it. If you're very worried about your history of depression, it might be better to consult a professional (maybe your psychiatrist from before?), to see whether Lyrica is right for you. Good luck! I emailed it on March 6th but it never appeared. I do not need to belong to a group where I can't express my experience, good or bad about a medication that has helped some people tremendously and made life horrible for others. > Jbaby > > Note: forwarded message attached. > > > --------------------------------- > Never miss a thing.
