Guest guest
Dear , Thanks for the interesting info about PSC liver tx. I've actually never thought to ask if the incision would be any different than the standard liver tx. (the mercedes benz scar). That's something I'll have to ask about. I'm considering going to an in hospital pre liver tx support group tomorrow. I think that it might be really beneficial to talk to others who are just waiting...as I am...by the phone!!! Ha! Take care and God Bless! Jacquelyn ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Laurie, and everyone, Several months ago, I specifically asked my GI Dr. " where they cut " in Liver Tx surgery for PSC. He showed me on a diagram...cut out the section of the small intestine where the main bile duct enters, then attach the new liver, ducts and small portion of the small intestine from the donor to that position in the recipients small intestine. This way all the diseased ducts as well as the " sphinctor of odi " (at the connection between the common bile duct and the small intestine) are replaced. I am not on the " list " as yet, and my Dr. is not a transplant surgeon or hepatologist, but is this similiar to what you all have been told or have had done? Thanks for any info you can share. H. Re: Bill's comment about duct reconstruction -- Thanks for the info. I heard, too, that the handling of the duct in the tx surgery is dependent on its size, etc. Laurie ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups eLerts!
