kaitee got all her teeth in early, and they came in one right after another..

but when she started losing her baby teeth I was a wreck, cause she would just

reach in her mouth and dig them out and bring them to me...I was so aftraid that

she would be soon handing me her permanent teeth lol...

My son got his first tooth @ 17 months!  He still has all of his baby

teeth, and he will be 8 on 11/30.  My other son lost his first baby tooth @

9! Just like me, and he has only four permanent teeth! So in my family two out

of my four kids took after me when loosing their baby teeth.

My daughter who will be 13 on Saturday still has baby teeth. So who is to

say that because has mDs that is why he got his first tooth at  17

months, and still has not lost any of them either. It runs that way in our

family.

's Teeth were slow to come in (but only about 6 months behind) - then

because of an under-bite we had to have a jaw expander at 10; once we had

the jaw expander removed all of her baby teeth molars fell out.  She has no

baby teeth left at 11 - while my son at 13 still has 5!  The orthodontist

and dentist both mentioned that she has very short roots (a DS trait) so

they are not moving her teeth quickly because they do not want her to loose

her teeth (me neither, especially after TWO sets of braces!)  She will have

braces this time for at least 3 years.

I have a 12 year-old that still has baby teeth. My 7 year-old just started

losing. No harm. People grow and develop at different rates.

Atypical tooth development and replacement (losing baby teeth and gaining

permanent ones), as well as fewer cavities, are typical when referring to

children with any form of Down syndrome. All children need to start seeing a

dentist around age 2. Do you have one experienced in treating children with Down

syndrome? We have a good pediatric dentist, but they knew nothing about the

commonness of children with Down syndrome not having cavities (especially when

you can barely get a brushing in edgewise once a day!)
