Guest guest Posted June 17, 2008 Report Share Posted June 17, 2008 And here's articles elsewhere about the same topic: Older Anti-psychotic Drugs to Carry New Warning (Source: Medical News Today) - On June 16, 2008, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) " ordered " manufacturers of older conventional antipsychotic drugs to strengthen the label to warn of increased risk of death when used off-label to treat older people with dementia. The FDA sent letters to the manufacturers of both older conventional anti-psychotic drugs and atypical anti-psychotic drugs, giving them 30 days to either submit the new wording to the FDA, or to explain why they don't think the changes were necessary. According to the FDA's announcement, the Boxed Warnings (the strongest class of FDA warning a drug can have) will carry words to the effect that " clinical studies indicate that anti-psychotic drugs ... are associated with an increased risk of death when used in elderly patients treated for dementia- related psychosis.
