Guest guest
in the elderly the heart is not as effecient as it used to be. Meaning, when they are upright the heart has a difficult time circulating the blood from the lower extremeties, may be they have some puffiness or edema in their ankles so when they lay down the blood flow is easier to and from the heart and thus the fluid is filtered out. Anyone with dependent edema in the feet and ankles will have this occur during the night. Just an FYI katydid urinary questions My parents (dad 88 & LBD and mom 81 ALZ) drink very few fluids and have very little urinary output during the day; yet at night between 3-5 am there is a Tsunami in their beds from one end to the other. At least their kidneys still work but I'm wondering why this happens only at night? There is no sign of uti and no complaints of discomfort at all. I have tried not giving fluids 2 hrs prior to bedtime to no avail. This is not causing any problems--I' m just curious as to why this is. Thanks.
