Guest guest
was at the Pennsylvania State Games this weekend and I mentioned to someone that she had MDS - and that person said, rather sarcastically, well that is the best kind to have isn't it. I just explained to her that it just makes things difficult as other children will ask me " What is wrong with her " when she does not behave like a typical child. She has no features of DS (except a slight slant to the eyes) and wears glasses. But she did not talk until 2 years ago so she is not a talkative pre-teen (she is 11) - she did not start talking until she was 9 - so she speaks like a 2 year old. It is possible that I am taking this the wrong way, but what she said (she is the mom of a child with DS and a coach of a Rythmetic gymnastics team) and the way she said it felt like an insult or a put down. On a good note - got 3 gold medals and 2 bronze - I have to find out what she got the gold's in (I know one is the total all-around score) but I have to ask her coach which events she gold medaled in.
