High cost of Actos

Boy was I shocked last week upon refilling my Actos prescription after our

insurance coverage ran out! To find out that Actos is so'o'o'o'o'o'o'o

expensive! It would have been about $179 at RiteAid and Medicare only paid $20

on it! Now let me ask some of you on the board, if you have suggestions for a

place with a better price for Actos (or any other meds for that matter.) Also,

do any of you have any personal experience with the medical or prescription

insurance plans from AARP? Thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Having paid out $205 for just three of my meds made me realize that I will have

to do something very quickly so I don't go through this the next time I do a

refill.

What had happened to my insurance is simple. We moved to California. My wife had

to leave her job. She will eventually get SSDI but it'll be 2 years before she

gets Medicare. I get Medicare A+B already since it was offered to me when I

first started getting SSDI. As far as Medi-CCAL (California's plan) I don't know

how or if we will even qualify for that.

Ours is not the worst case of what's happening with meds in this country, but I

still have to do something about this anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I understand that Cosco has the least expensive generic drugs. also, you

can sign over your MediCare to an HMO, which will then cover your

medications. ( If you want to use an HMO). to be eligible for Medi Cal,

you have to be making under a certain amount of money and have less than

$3000 in the bank as a couple. The last I heard, to be eligible, you have to

as a couple, make less than $1400 a month. Look up AARP on the internet.

they do have a coupon you can send for that will give you 10 percent off

medications, but the last I read about their medical plan is that they wil

not cover any previous medical problems you have, but wil cover only

problems you develop after you sign up for their insurancce. so much for

AARP! Are you in San Bernardino now? I think their is a Kaiser there, which

wil be glad to take your MediCare. I don't know how accessible it is to you

transportation wise.

We're in Riverside, not San Berdoo, and there is a Kaiser here which I just

might visit to see if I can get any care there. As a couple we'd make more than

the $1400 a month (that's almost as much as what I get by myself!) so guess we

might be out of luck as far as Medi-Cal, but I'm still going to try anyway.

Thanks for the info.

Doesn't hurt to try! I certainly am not positve about the amount of money.

If you go in as a couple and your wife is still not receiving the SSDI, you

still might be eligible with a share of cost. It is such a complicated

system!
