Nope, he doesn't take capsules. I have never seen anything like it

in his stool before, which is why I suspect yeast colonies ... since

we started a brand new antifungal two days ago.

We are looking into enzymes... hard to find a safe one, he's so

allergic.

I had some white chunks in my own stools when I was in an intense yeast-killing

phase (ahh, the wonderful memories I have!), but never really figured out what

they were. Unless it's a regular occurence, I wouldn't stress over it too much.

My guess is yeast, and good riddance to it. Does he have any other negative

symptoms?

Suzanne,

This is a long shot, but if he has been eating spinach and a lot of other

high oxalate foods, the white stuff might possibly be oxalates. Spinach is

extremely high in oxalates. Oxalate crystals tend to look more like sand,

though, and I'm having a hard time picturing capsule like chunks. Are they

as big as a capsule you would swallow? Citrate also can break up oxalate

crystals that are in other places, and that might liberate more oxalate

that might find its way to the stool.

Thanks! I just needed to hear from someone else who's seen these

things. As long as it's dead yeast colonies and not liver stress,

I'm delighted to see them go. They were hard and rubbery, and

had " convoluted " surfaces liken some product of the intestines. (and

I hope I never have to inspect so closely again, yuk!)

Thanks for your thoughts on this, . These chunks are rubbery

and most of them are about 1/2 inch across, some smaller and a few

larger, about 1/4 cup volume in all, spread evenly throughout a

spinachy, watery stool. The surface of the chunks is convoluted,

like something that came out of the intestines. They are quite firm

and evenly white.

Before we started the SCD, we did try removing high- and medium-

oxalate foods, which was quite difficult and led to an extremely

limited diet. He is allergic to almost all foods except about 8

veggies and 4 meats. It's very unfortunate, but most of the veggies

he does tolerate are high in oxalates (such as beets, spinach,

asparagus). When we removed the high-oxalate veggies for about 2

weeks, we did not see any decrease in the post-meal stimmy spikes

that had led us to suspect oxalates. In order to do the SCD, we

needed to add some high-oxalate vegetables back into his diet, or he

would be eating mostly meat. In SCD, his stims are mostly gone,

except when an antifungal triggers a new die-off.

We have seen grainy stools in the past, related to yeast spores from

die-off. This almost always is limited to just one stool, right

after starting a new antifungal. He is apparently a major yeast kid.

He's responding tremendously well to each new antifungal we give

him.
