Arthritides of the Foot: An Interactive Atlas

http://www.gentili.net/foot/introduction.htm

We created a web-based atlas of Foot Arthritides

using HTML (hypertext markup language). This atlas

illustrates with radiographs and diagrams common

and not so common Arthritides of the foot.

Distribution, radiographic appearance, and

differential diagnosis are discussed. References

are linked to PubMed,

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi

allowing the user to have immediate access to

the abstract, and full text, if available online.

Links to similar cases on other teaching files

on the Internet are also provided.

This atlas includes:

Rheumathoid Arthritis,

Ankylosing Spondylitis,

http://www.gentili.net/foot/as.htm

Psoriatic Arthritis,

Arthritis Mutilans: An extremely severe form of

chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis characterized by

resorption of bones and the consequent collapse

of soft tissue. When this affects the hands, it

can cause a phenomenon sometimes referred to as

" Telescoping Fingers. " Similar changes can occur

in the feet. Psoriatic Arthritis can also lead

to Arthritis Mutilans.

arthritis mu.ti.lans (my t l- nz )

n.

Rheumatoid Arthritis accompanied by Osteoporosis

and destruction of the joint cartilages that

results in severe deformities, chiefly of the

hands and feet.

http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/arthritis+mutilans

Arthritis Mutilans is the most severe of the

Arthritides associated with Psoriasis. Severe

Arthritis of the Interphalangeal Joints (IP),

particularly the Distal IP Joints, results in

telescoping of the Phalanges. The finger develop

" opera glass " deformities. There may be

Ankylosis, resulting in rigid, clawed fingers.

(Arthritides is the plural of Arthritis. )

Arthritis Mutilans is a severe deforming Polyarthritis

involving many peripheral joints. It is seen in

Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Reiters

Syndrome, Multicentric Reticulohistiocytosis and

sometimes Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. In this

disorder, gross bone and cartilage destruction

occurs. (The Encyclopaedia of Medical Imaging

June, I'm not sure. I was looking around the Gentili site before I posted

this, but now I can't get in either (even after copying and pasting the link

and looking for another way in on Google).

They might be having a server problem.
