Guest guest
Dear Group, Wanted to write to give you an update. I am still pretty down in the dumps, but doing much better than the last time I wrote. My good leg did NOT have to be put into a cast. It has started to heal and is no longer breaking. My right leg is still in a cast for at least the next 4 weeks. SO I decided IF I have to wear the blessed thing, it might as well be Hotl, So I am now sporting a hot pink- glow in the dark - cast. I know it sounds silly but everytime I look at it, I smile at the thought of a granny like me with this ! I also got power wheels. A friend loaned me a power wheelchair. It is really fun to tool around in, but I put the chair on permanent time out. I was driving into the bathroom (very small) and hit the wall of the vanity, I leaned toward the joy stick to pull back and it jumped forward fast and pinned my broken leg and foot against the wall. I hit so hard I moved the vanity 1/2 " , wow did it hurt. I could not get focused to get it to move back and I couldn't get my leg out. I did this 2 times before I decided my house is to small and narrow for the size of the chair. The second time I actually broke the bottom of my cast. It is a heavy duty chair and made for someone and someplace larger. I was bummed, but will try again. I have also checked with my Insurance to see what coverage I have for a smaller chair. I appreciate all of your information , It has really saved my soul when I needed to know more. My Dr. and I are working on seeing if I can eliminate, or reduce some of the meds I am taking to help prevent this type of problem. I am also using a bone stem stimulator machine, looks like a brace that goes over the cast where it is broken and emits microwave/electrical current to stimulate the bone. Doesn't hurt at the time, but after the whole leg will feel tired and get cramps like I worked out to hard or something. I thank all of you for your generous spirit and kindness. Gentle Hugs & Prayers, Carol M. in CA
Guest guest
Dear Carol, A hot pink cast? Sounds pretty cool to me!! I'm glad your good leg is doing better, and I hope the other one heals quickly. Your escapade in the power chair sounds like something I would do!! I nearly took out a whole display at Wal Mart, and I think they hide the chairs when I come there now. Take care, I'm always thinking of you guys here, Judi

Guest guest
Hi Carol, You always have that uplifting spirit, and I just love that about you. If your going to wear one of them, hey wear one in style:) I love pink! I am glad that your other leg is alright, and pray that soon the cast will be off the other leg. You have been through hell yourself. It sounds like you do need a smaller chair, lol I would like to use a scooter in Walmart sometimes, but scared to death to get on it, just call me chicken. Guest guest
I think power chair driving lessons need to be ordered LOL! I hope your doctor can get you one that fits your surroundings better. As long as you've been dealing with this, I don't see how they can refuse. It's great that at least one leg is healing. You hot pink cast sounds very lively. I hope it puts a smile on your face. a On Sep 1, 2005, at 10:11 PM, Dandcmayer@... wrote: > Dear Group, > Wanted to write to give you an update. Guest guest
Tawny, The power chairs really are wonderful. I couldn't shop without one. The first time made me nervous too, but after the first time, you're a pro. They are used to people bumping into things, but remember that more people bump into things with shopping carts than they do power chairs. You'd be surprised at how many groceries those little baskets can hold. a On Sep 3, 2005, at 5:28 PM, tdianaok wrote: > Hi Carol, > You always have that uplifting spirit, and I just love that about > you. Guest guest
a, Yes I agree about the driving lessons, I am sure my house will need a new coat of patch and paint all around! Tomorrow my husband is having surgery to fix an incisional hernia from her previous surgery to remove his kidney. SO, please pray for him. We have been in a lot of medical offices, and facilities with this, the surgical decision happened very quickly. BUT my cast causes a lot of smiles and conversation and am thinking of drawing a happy face, but not sure I can live with that magic marker tatoo for the next 4 weeks. Will have to think about it. Please take care! Gentle Hugs & Prayers, Carol M. in CA
