Press Release

HARC Affiliate Announces August 7 Workshop to Focus on Household Mold as a

Safety Issue

THE WOODLANDS, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2001--With all the media

attention mold contamination has received recently, how does one know when

mold is something that poses an immediate threat to health or can be

ignored?

A one-day workshop will explore the issues and help participants sort

through the ``hype'' versus ``high risk.'' The course will be held from 9

a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 7 at the Houston Advanced Research Center

(4800 Research Forest, The Woodlands).

The workshop will be led by L. P. Coston, Ph.D., CSHP, REP, CEA. Dr. Coston

has worked for 38 years as an educator and industry consultant in areas

related to environmental health, safety and compliance.

Dr. Coston maintains that anyone involved in property acquisition,

ownership, management or renovation today needs to have an understanding of

mold contamination. ``Toxic mold has the potential for developing medical

health effects that range from simple skin irritation to pulmonary

hemorrhaging to damage of the central nervous system,'' he said. ``Based on

news reports, pending law suits and a recent $32 million dollar judgement

granted to a family in Dripping Springs, Texas, against their homeowners'

insurance, there appears to be legal liability.''

Dr. Coston said that individuals who know how to identify mold contamination

may be able to remediate the building before the contamination is so great

that it becomes uninhabitable.

Dr. Coston will discuss such topics as

Identification of mold contamination

Remediation of mold contamination

Health and safety hazards associated with mold contamination

Mold contamination investigative procedures

Evaluation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning

systems

EPA guidelines for cleanup and mold prevention

Liability and Insurance

Sponsored by the Science of Safety (SOS) and its parent company, EVDigital

LLC, the workshop is open to the public at a cost of $125 for the first

person and $90 for each additional person from the same organization or

household. (Manuals provided; lunch is independent.) To register on-line or

by phone, visit www.scienceofsafety.com or call 281/364-4061.
