Guest guest
Hi all, I have a quick lab question. My creatinine jumped from 1.0 to 1.2 over a 6 week period while my protein/creatinine ratio dropped from 1.8 to 1.3. At first my doctor said that it was a trade off, but he just called me (a few hours later) and asked if I was taking furosemide. I am taking a single 40 mg tablet on an occassional basis. When he heard that, he was happier, and said that I should decrease my furosemide. Does this make sense that the lasix should have increased my creatinine level?? Also, does anyone know how accurate the tests are. I mean, if I jump from 1.0 to 1.2 and then 1.1, is that meaningful or just random?? Guest guest
Creatinine is a pretty stable and easy to measure substance and the values are among the most reproducible that you will see. The jump from 1.0 to 1.2 is at about the limit of precision that the lab offers......IF.... your " true " creatinine was initially 1.1 and the lab result was 1.0....the error would be acceptable....same with your second in that again if your " true " result was 1.1 and the lab this time gave a 1.2...again...reasonable level of possible error. The only way to know for sure is to get another result and see if there is a trend or see if there is the same level of randomness. Better yet....if you know prior results, you can get an idea if there is a trend at work or whether this is random error. As far as the protein, it is actually much less precise and if you combine that poorer precision with a calculation (ratio)....who knows. Your doc is obviously right on top of this by being concerned when this minimal level of change has (possibly) occurred. At 05:00 PM 11/14/2001, you wrote: >Hi all, > >I have a quick lab question. Guest guest
Here's what I do know about my creatinine over the past severl months (since april): 1.2 1.3 1.5 - started prednisone, lasix, BPs 1.3 1.2 1.2 1.0 1.2 Or something very close to that. I guess I'll just assume that the 1.0 was too good to be true and that it is really stable at just about 1.2. Not ideal, but VERY good!!! Thanks for the info on the lab tests. Guest guest
In addition, yes, it's possible for furosemide to cause serum creatinine to be a little higher. What are you taking it for, and why only occasionally? Guest guest
Hi Ingrid. 1.0 to 1.2. As said, maybe lab margin of error, maybe the Lasix. If it was me, I don't think I would give it much importance. That's a fairly low serum creatinine anyway. I was 1.1 before I even had any symptoms of IgA nephropathy, way back in 1976, according to my military medical records. Guest guest
Furosemide is the generic name for the loop diuretic Lasix. Pierre Re: Lasix and creatinine > What's furosemide? >
Guest guest
My Dr tells me it is testing differences. You could go back an hour later and it could be higher or lower. ACE Inhibitors and similar drugs can alter those readings as well. Lasix and creatinine > Hi all, > > I have a quick lab question.
