Guest guest
I was actually an underweight premie who was pulled out early because my mother had high blood pressure. best of luck to you and yours.... take care... preetbg@... wrote: Hello all.I hope you all are good.I was diagnosed with IGA last year in March. I had high levels of protein. I was given med for High B.P.. I wanted to be pregnant, regardless of my doc.'s wishes, and so April of this year I had a catheter placed in my neck area. I started on hemodialysis on April 24, 2001. I was 4 months pregnant at the time. My B.P. was 240/160 and so I was admitted into the hospital. I was there for 6 weeks and then I came home. I had my baby boy at seven months (June 14, 2001). He was born prematurely and weighed only 490g (1lb and 1oz.). Now, I'm on several meds for high blood pressure, ulcer pains and vitamins. I go to hemodialysis 3x/week for 4 hours, before when i was pregnant (7days/2.5 hrs). Soon, I'll be on peritoneal dialysis. it'll be easier to take care of my baby. Guest guest
It's nice to hear positive stories from others. I'm fairly new to all of this and I hope to get to know you all. The worst part is over for now it seems, for my son. At first it was really hard because Iman would be improving then the next day there would be bad news. It went like that for a few months and now I'm hoping for the best. He has grade 2 bleeding on his lift side and grade 3 bleeding on his right side on his brain. There was alot of stress going on, with my baby, with myself, and with my husband. When I needed my husband the most he wasn't around and now that I've come to terms with everything he wants to get back with me. I'm just hopeful that it will be alright. Actually, just praying everything will be fine. Here in BC, there is a five year transplantation waiting list. It is very discouraging, though the doctors reccomend asking family members. It is hard, I mean how would one even start to ask? I believe everyone knows what dispositon I'm in and if they want to that's fine, but if they don't that's ok. I hope researchers can test animal kidneys in humans. For instance, pigs, rabbits, and frogs have similar body systems as humans. They would be saving alot of people if this works. I heard it one day on the news that they were testing this, so who knows what will happen. Guest guest
Hello Preet, Are you the one with IgAN? Very sorry to hear about your baby. Do they know what is causing the bleeding? I'm looking at an at-least 5 year waiting time. In fact my calculations show 16 years based on 1999 data. Fortunately, I didn't have to ask my brothers to be evaluated for xplant, they volunteered. My neph hopes that some day they will be xplanting pig kidneys into humans. Guest guest
I have a niece who is 21 years old now, and in good health. I remember when she was born months premature - weighed no mare than a pound. There were lots of problems at the time, but everything certainly came out fine in the end. I hope everything goes well for you and your son too. On the subject of transplants, I don't think a person can really ask for a kidney (although I would assume some might). If relatives want to give one, they will come forward. The best you can do is be sure the family is aware of your situation. As for transplant waiting lists, patients like us can focus on that number, or we can hope that it won't be as long as that. As I said in another message, just because they say there is a 5 year waiting list doesn't mean that everyone will in fact have to wait 5 years. Do you know what your blood type is? Guest guest
Hopefully I will never need one, but regarding transplants and blood types, I have come across some conflicting information. I am type AB. Does this mean that I can only receive an AB kidney, or can I receive one from any good match (based on the other criteria) much like I can receive any blood type? None of my immediate relatives are AB. Thanks. > I have a niece who is 21 years old now, and in good health. I remember when > she was born months premature - weighed no mare than a pound.
