Fighting esophageal thrush...ain't life grand?

Last Tuesday I had a steroid injection to ease some of my joint

pain, and Wednesday I had a sore throat. Thursday morning I

realized I had thrush, and by Thursday afternoon it had travelled

all the way down my esophagus. Felt like I had swallowed a brick.

The anti-fungal lozenges are helping, but I still have a stubborn

patch on my tongue.

Lucky me. Doc said that unless I already had an infection, the

steroids would not have caused this. I did a little research, and

it looks like long-term, high dose anti-biotics, AIDS, diabetes, and

lupus are the main culprits. Well, I'm not on antibiotics, and I

don't have AIDS or diabetes, so that leaves one thing. Since I've

suspected lupus for awhile, now, and my new rheumy seems to be going

in that direction, as well, this is just one more piece of the

puzzle, albeit an annoying one. I'm also becoming more sensitive to

the sun - it now causes nausea and severe fatigue and joint pain if

I am out in it for more than about five minutes. It used to just

trigger migraines. I kind of wish I could have the migraines

back :P. I also had to over-do it this past weekend, and I'm paying

for it today, let me tell you.

I have another week and a half to go before my next rheumy

appointment, and he doesn't like to give out the test results until

he can meet with you to explain them. I already know most of them,

so I don't know what the big deal is, but them's the rules. I guess

it won't kill me to wait, but I don't have much patience anymore.

So, have any of you had the pleasure of growing a yogurt factory in

your esophagus? Boy, was that an experience I'd rather not repeat.
