Angie, maybe it's time for a second opinion? A different physician could

possibly help you more. You've been suffering for a long time now.

Hi Angie.

Are you also taking Prednisone tablets daily? This was the only thing that

worked for me as far as immediate relief with prescriptions.

Non-medical pain/swelling relief can come from soaking in a hot tub or

taking a hot shower. I have a paraffin wax dip that I use on my

hands/feet/elbows. Trust me, if I could find a way to dip my knees and

shoulders, I would!

Talk with your doctor to get better pain relief. I don't know what you're

taking right now for pain meds, but it doesn't sound like it's working very

well for you.

All the best,

I do take 5 mgs of prednisone twice daily. He said he could up

that if I want. Said that if I conutinue to have problems he would

change my medicines As for pain meds I mostly have tylenol

arthritis do have vicidon if it gets too bad but don't have a lot of

them and don't like taking them. I will have to try your suggestions

Thanks

This is the second rheumy I went to and I have to get another

referral before my insurance will let me change and then there is

the problem that there isn't a whole lot to choose from here. He

did tell me he would change my meds if I felt I needed them I was

hoping the shot would help but it doesn't seem to be. I am having a

bad morning trying to get ready for work can't get my body moving I

left the bed and sat down in the computer chair and that is as far

as I have gotten. My feet are so swollen I can't get my shoes on I

am sorry I will quit gripping. Thanks for your help and listening

to me whine.

Thanks

Some of the medications for RA certainly can have bad side effects.

Your rheumatologist just has to keep trying until he gets the right

combination of meds that will work for you and will cause few adverse

side effects. RA itself can cause bone deformities and has the capacity

to cripple you. Is this the first DMARD that your doctor has put you

on? What did the doctors in the ER say about the blood? Sue

I am new to also. I was diagnosed in May. The pain has been

unbelievable. I have been put on injectable MTX and have finally

began to see some results, it has been five weeks since I started

that. I am also on plaquenil, 400 mg per day. I am still taking

hydracodone for pain but it significantly less than when I started. I

have been put on provigil for the fatigue and nausea (from the MTX)

and that has made a significant improvement in my overall feeling

better. I hope your dr finds the right combo for you. I am on a long

list of meds, only a few of which I have mentioned here, but it is

worth if I can get back some of my previous life. I am 35 years old

with 2 children and a hubby. Write me anytime. This a great group to

be with. Cassy

I think that all depends on the person..how they feel and severity of the

disease. I too felt the same way you do...the drugs were far worst than the

disease. Sometimes it takes time to find the right combination that works well

for you.

For me Methotrexate was a total disaster...Tons of serious side effects that

made me far worst than my RA symptoms.

How are you feeling now? Have things improved any?
