Hi : Definitely have appetite loss while in bad flare (the only good

thing I experienced was the weight loss from that). Of course, the

prednisone took care of that and more......still trying to lose the extra

weight.

Yeah, I have. For me, it's the only good part about it (always looking

for an easy diet). :} Seriously, I hover around a basically good

weight for my height so it's not a problem for me but if I was

underweight or lost weight quickly, I could see it becoming a problem.

I usually have some homemade soup full of vegetables in the freezer so

when I have one of these no appetite attacks, I can usually at least

manage to face a bowl of soup to get something nutritious.

Hi ;

Yes, I rarely can eat when I'm in a flare. When you're hurting it usually

kills the appetite. Even when I just am having the painful day every few

weeks I can't bring myself to eat more than just what it takes to get the

meds down. Thats another reason I've lost weight I think. ... T.

My son's appetite has also decreased. He's only been on enzymes for

a week. And he's not overweight. He's underweight which has me

worried. I thought their appetite was suppose to increase, not

decrease. Anyone know why this is happening?

pds. We started w/gfcf diet she didn't gain weight until about mth 2, we had

added supplements and other things in the diet she gained 4 pds. Now at 3 yrs

old she weighs in at a whopping 29 pds, we've been on enzymes for about 4 weeks

(all 3 of them). Her appetite isn't great but for what it's worth she's slowly

climbing the chart again.

I feel that because of all her interventions her gut is beginning to heal, my

daughter is also allergic (not sensitive) to beef, so alot of meats she won't

touch.

The thing with all of these interventions that we are trying with our kids, is

that alot of times we are unsure exactly how it's reacting to what's going on

inside them. In the begining I didn't think she would ever grow or gain weight,

but she is, it's slow, but it's there. I don't know what other things you are

doing, are you keeping a journal? Sometimes other factors may have more to do

with this, supplements, maybe they are sick or not feeling well. I have a

journal that keeps up with everything from bms to foods, behaviors, supps,

therapies, etc. PIA (pain in the _ _ _), but well worth it when I can go back

and see where the difference is and what changed in diet or something else.

Just a thought. I have to tell myself, it didn't take her overnight or a few

months to get this way, so it certainly isn't going to be overnight to get

better.

what can help him the most. A long process and a journey no one wants to make.

The journal is a serious PIA, but well worth it, it has helped me in alot of

areas, I can also keep up with rounds of chelating and all the different things

that come with each one, what changes as far as a new food she will eat,

EVERYTHING. I keep it at my bedside table and take 30 mins to write a page every

nite so I don't forget anything, sometimes I have to write a few pages, and

sometimes not much at all. However, after being able to go back through the

journal and see how far she's come and all the things that she's lost or gained,

anyone would say she's no longer the nonverbal head banging hellion she used to

be.

I write a journal, too. My son is sensitive to many foods and almost

all supplements.

My son is underweight, but he used to be much worse. His appetite

improved and he gained 4 lbs after we begin Casein-free diet. Zinc

and Selenium also helped with his appetite. Now we found epsom salts

help his appetite too and he already gained 2 lbs, because he has

magnesium deficiency.

My son had " withdrawal " type reactions from enzymes for about three

weeks.

This boy

This was my son's reaction also. He tolerated basically no foods, so

he would eat everything in sight. After enzymes, he eats a normal

amount of food for a child his age and size. It is very nice. He

would eat an entire chicken by himself, plus at least two servings

of all the side dishes, and he was only age 5 at the time. Now he

eats one or 1-1/2 pieces of chicken and a reasonable amount of other

food per meal.

>>Thanks. I won't worry too much then. I don't think he likes anything

right now. Even his favorite food of macaroni and cheese he can't

stand while on the enzymes. One good thing about this boy is, he does

not like sweets at all. I know something is wrong when he eats more

than one candy bar a month. No nothing with this kid.

This sounds to me like he might have a problem with phenols and/or

yeast. Eating phenol foods [which most sweets are] or sugary foods

can cause major headache and other pains. Consider No-Fenol enzyme,

it can help.

My granddaughter is on the gfcf diet. They put her on Brainchildnutritional

vitamins and minerals and have seen a big change in her appetite, now she eats

like a little horse.

Hey, all...I've got a question about appetite. Since about the time

my hair started falling out (about 2 weeks ago), my appetite has

gone completely downhill. For those who know me, this is NOT normal

for me. Shoot...I'm the type of person who will try to eat myself

to death when I get depressed, and my waistline shows it :P. I

pretty much have to force myself to eat something to keep my blood

sugar up because of the prednisone. Last Sunday I did have a bout

with food poisoning (I'm assuming it was, anyway) and had to have an

IV to get my fluids back up, but this started before, and my stomach

has been fine since Tuesday.

I've lost 10 pounds in just over a week. Now, this isn't a HORRIBLE

thing (I've been extremely overweight since my pregnancy), but this

is a little too fast, and the appetite is getting worse, not

better. I'm rarely hungry, and when I am, nothing looks even

remotely edible. I'm also going through some kind of flare that

started just before my hair came out. I've been achy all over,

extremely fatigued (of course, I DID start a new job last Monday,

which could be contributing to that), and I've had a lot more pain

in my joints, and areas of joints that did not hurt before

in " trouble spots " (ankles, neck, and shoulders) have been extremely

painful. I've also had my first experience of my joints actually

feeling hot to the touch (they normally just become locally swollen

and painful, but not hot). Also, for the first time tonight,

vicodin is doing NOTHING for the pain in my right foot, and my

shoulders are getting bad, again, too. I'm hoping it subsides

enough for me to sleep tonight...I have to be up early for work

tomorrow.

I'm just wondering if this appetite thing is common, and how many of

you have experienced this. How long has it lasted? Though I'm

tickled that I can fit in some clothes I haven't been able to wear

in over a year, I'm concerned that I'm losing weight way too

quickly, and I KNOW I'm not taking in enough calories or nutrients

to be healthy, which can't be good for my system right now. I will

be bringing this up with the new doctors on Thursday, but I'd like

to know if I should contact my gp before then about this? If this

pain doesn't go away by tomorrow, I'll definitely have to call her

for something stronger than codeine...it obviously is not doing the

trick this time.

Oh yeah...I'm getting numbness in the last two fingers in my right

hand on and off, and pins and needles in both hands and feet,

especially my right foot, which is painful along the bones to the

last two toes.

I feel like I'm falling apart. Wonder why :P.

I don't understand this part of your message, because it is my

understanding that prednisone will raise your blood sugar, whether you

eat or not. With me, the more carbs I ate, the higher my blood sugar

got. It's too bad you don't have a meter to test and see what your

blood sugar is when you're not eating much. Sue

I am not on Prednisone, but I have no appetite. I think the Lupus

causes it for me. I have to make myself to eat too. I know when

someone if flaring, people seem to lose the appetite.

I'm glad your going to the doctor soon, Tawny

Pharmacist told me to eat regularly (not skip meals) because the pred.

can mess with your blood sugar. I assumed he meant it would lower

it. What I did notice after going on the pred is that I have no

warning before I become hypoglycemic (which I'm prone to...). Instead

of getting a little hungry, then slowly " shaky " and cranky, I'm doing

fine and then it hits so hard and fast I can hardly move. Because of

that I do make sure I have at least a LITTLE something before I even

get hungry...I just make sure I eat at regular intervals, even if it

is just a glass of juice or a small cookie. I weighed myself again

this morning, and since last Monday, I've lost 11 pounds. That is 11

pounds in just over a week. This has never happened before (except on

Lindora :)), and I'm definitely bringing it up with the doctors.

Type 2 diabetes sometimes presents itself at first with hypoglycemia.

Have you been checked for diabetes? Does it run in your family?

Prednisone has been known to give people diabetes. I have diabetes, but

I had it years before I was diagnosed. For that reason, I have little

diabetes antennas that pop up when I hear certain symptoms, LOL.

I was tested for it back in March, and my blood sugar was fine. I've

been prone to hypoglycemia for probably 15 years, now. And yes, I

do watch it, especially now that I'm overweight (though not for long

at this rate :P). And yes, it does run in the family. My paternal

grandmother developed diabetes when she was 35 or 40. She was not

overweight, did not smoke, etc. She DID cook pretty nasty meals,

healthwise. They sure were tasty, though...she was from Oklahoma

and did that southern fried cuisine. Nothing like chicken fried in

shortening and salt pork instead of bacon. :P She did make a mean

biscuits with gravy, though. YUM.
