Hi Vani,

Welcome to LL. I know that you're skeptical, we all were. You won't be

sorry that you tried it. LL is energizing, relaxing and yet effective.

Begin with learning the breathing first. Blow through the golden straw,

take in a deep belly breath: you want your stomach to expand as you're

taking in your breath, hold it for a few counts, Pah it out (slowly),

Hold your breath and do the lift: the way that I explain the lift is

you're lifting your guts up toward your neck and flatten your stomach as

flat as possible, now hold your breath while doing the lifting and the

flattening as long as you can. I would focus on doing these steps for at

least a few days before doing any positions.

You're ultimate goal on reps. is at least 40 breaths 5 or 6 days a week.

If that sounds like to much to begin with try 20 and build up. Drink lots

of water. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Love, Liz.

Thanks Liz,

I did 30 today, I liked your advise - I will just

concentrate on the breathing for a few weeks before I go into the

positions. I have 2 kids and at 30 I have a flabby stomach - is there

some excercise that I can do to get rid of that hanging belly. (I am

ashamed to write about it even)

Hi Vani,

If you just focus on the breathing and concentrate on flattening your

stomach as flat as possible while holding your breath as long as you can

during the breathing process, you'll see good results in your stomach. I

used to do at least 10 different stomach exercises and I didn't get the

results that I have since doing the breathing with just focusing on

flattening my stomach. I find that I can flatten my stomach more if I lay

on my back with my knees bent. I call these " Belly Flatteners " even

though they are part of the breathing technique. I do these at least 10

times a day.

Have a great weekend!

Love, Liz

Hi :

Welcome to our group - you will find a lot of

information and support here. You need to go to a

rheumatologist - a doctor who specializes in RA,

lupus, etc, so that they will know the proper lab and

x-ray work to do to hopefully find a dx for your

symptoms, and then prescribe the medications

necessary. I am sure that one of your friends could

refer you to their doctor? Unless you have an HMO, if

you have PPO insurance you should be able to go to any

doctor you want on the health plan. I hope that you

are able to get the help you need.

Thanks, Kathe. I do have a PPO, so your info is especially helpful.

I would call the insurance company as well before doing anything

without a referral but it helps to know what type of doctor I should see.

A little good news: the doctor I needed to speak to called me back.

He said the titer on the ANA was insignificant. However, he wants to

draw more blood to check my immune system to see if something is up

there. If he finds nothing, he will refer me to a rheumatologist to

get another opinion.

Bottom line is that right now I need to adjust how I type, I can't

curve my fingers and my joints are cracking. One week ago I wasn't

like this, then I had the " flu " again and this things with my hands

remains.

Thanks again. I'm going to read through more posts to get more

information on different situations people may have.

Welcome, !

I would seek the opinion of a rheumatologist no matter what the lab results

are. There are very few blood tests that alone can make a diagnosis in the

realm of rheumatic disease.

A correct diagnosis and early, aggressive treatment is warranted in many

cases. You'll have the best chance with a rheumatologist.

Sorry you have a mystery on your hands, and I hope you find answers soon.

Hi

Your symptoms sound very similar to what I've gone through this

summer. I did not feel so bad that I had to stay in bed, but needed

naps every day and by the evening - felt very achey, flu like. My

hands hurt so bad that I could not lift pots, open bottles (including

my Ibu bottle!) and making coffee in the morning (a necessity) was

extremely painful. I got diagnosed with RA and within one day of

taking plaquenil and prednisone - I noticed a big difference. My

prednisone dose has since been lowered so I notice an increase in pain

(having a terrible time with my feet this week). But my energy level

is usually good and no more flu feeling. I still rely a lot on Ibu

which I have been taking since I had knee surgery in June. I'm still

waiting for the Methotrexate to kick in - been on it about 6 wks. You

should definitely see a rheumatologist and go from there. Good luck.

I would like to welcome you to the group. I am sorry about all your

Hi , Welcome

Cassy

> Hi all, I just signed up for this group yesterday. I have been

having

> these bouts of the " flu " where I am incredibly ill, NO energy and

can

> barely move, entire body aches and I can't close my hands.

Everything

> except my chin aches, my feet hurt, I have chills then sweats. The

> first day of these bouts, I can't get out of bed to go to the

doctor.

> Last week I went to the doc the second day of the illness and he

did

> blood tests and found ANA and elevated white cells. I went in for

> another test yesterday and he was to get back to me today.

>

> Instead, one of his associates called me and said the white cells

were

> normal so I'd just been fighting something off. The other times I

> went to this clinic, I was told the same thing although this is the

> first time they ran an ANA. I am sick of being told I just had the

> flu. I am an otherwise healthy 41 year old woman who eats decently

> and walks/runs frequently.

>

> I asked him about the ANA titer the first doctor told me he'd run

and

> the guy I was speaking to said he know nothing about that, but I

had

> obviously just been fighting off something bacterial.

>

> I got pretty upset because I've been getting these bouts with the

> " flu " every so often and I get knocked on my butt for 3-5 days, and

> he's telling me it's nothing??? The conversation ended with him

> saying the first doctor would call me back.

>

> I have friends with Lupus and arthritis who suspect I have RA. My

> hands are now a little stiff after this last bout last week. I

can no

> longer squeeze ketchup out with one hand, I can't use a candle

lighter

> with one hand - but can use two hands together to squeeze.

>

> Please, I'll take any input I can get. If this doctor - a family

> practioner - fails to help me, where do I begin? Do I find another

> general practioner who will refer me out or do I just go see a

> specialist? What kind of specialist handles this kind of thing?

>

> I am not scared, I know there are medications and lifestyle

> adjustments I can make to live with what I may have. However, I

would

> like to start treatment asap. I suspect the " flu " bouts have been

Welcome to the group , wish we all could of met

under happier circumstances. At least it is someplace

to share and learn. I am newly diagnosed, but unsure

of exact complete diagnoses, the x ray does show

damage in the hands and wrist, but the blood work had

come back good she said. I have learned that is not

all that unusual. The blood work cannot be relied on

solely. Exhaustion sometimes does not describe the

tiredness, that goes along with this . As you say, you

just cannot go anymore. I have taken so many naps,

when I can get to sleep. It is very hard to relax and

go to sleep sometimes. I have to use sleeping pills to

get rest. I will keep you along with everyone in my

prayers, take care, better days ahead, in MO
