After 4 months of being either in my wheelchair or on my walker, my sister took

me to a movie last night and I managed with just my cane. Saw Ladies in Lavender

with Judy Dench and Maggie and I highly recommend this movie. I am

waiting for the results of all the bone scans which should show the extent of

the stress fractures, although the pain is greatly reduced now. As for my eye,

I have left a message (hate talking to machines) to see if I can get an earlier

appointment, because my sight in that eye is getting worse and when I look in

the mirror it looks like this eye is getting smaller. If I don't hear by Monday

morning I plan on calling again. This is so frustrating, especially when

reading is such a part of my life. I will be seeing my rheumy on Aug. 2 and plan

on asking her if she can do anything to speed up my appointment. The specialist

I am seeing have offices right beside the Rheumatology Dept. I am beginning to

think by adding Mtx with the Enbrel is beginning to show signs of helping and

blood tests so far have been okay, so maybe she will increase the Mtx. At this

point I am willing to take the risk if it means better quality of life. I do

count my blessings that unlike so many of you that have to live with so much

pain, my doctors make sure I have an adequate supply of pain medication at all

times. Even here in Canada there are still docs that are afraid to prescribe

anything stronger than Tylenol 3. On Friday, a dear friend called to see if Don

could drive her to her doctors because she was in so much pain she was in tears.

This is a lady who still lives in her own home, does all her own gardening etc.

next week will celebrate her 85th birthday. I had a gut feeling I should go

along and go in with her and I was so glad I did. Within minutes my temper was

at an all time high when he started talking about the possibility of addiction.

I can't repeat all I said since my language and tone were anything but lady like

but I did manage to get her a prescription for percocet. I also confronted him

as to why his office had not sought help for her. We have so many excellent

programmes for the elderly designed to assist them in continuing to stay in

their own homes. I refused to take Helen home until his nurse had made a phone

call to the nearest hospital to start the ball rolling to get her some in home

help. He grudgingly did what I asked but I am sure he was hoping he never has to

see me again. Especially when I added that I could be his worst nightmare in the

future.LOL.

Hope you all are having a somewhat pain free day.

Hugs

June

Way to go June! We have a few members here that could use your company

at their doctor's offices. Maybe this is a branch of medicine that

needs to be looked at. Doctors would think twice about things they say

and do and things they DON'T do if a patient advocate was with them at

their appointments. You are a good friend. Your friend is a spunky

lady that I admire. I hope I'm still in my home at 85, and not in an

urn LOL!

I hope you can get your appointment pushed up. They'd better hope that

temper of yours doesn't have to show to much.

It's good to hear that the addition of mtx is helping. I'll be adding

the mtx to my enbel starting tomorrow. This will be my third and last

attempt at taking mtx. Hopefully since my rheumy only wants me on a

low dose, I'll get some benefit without the side effects.

Thanks for the movie referral. I have a friend that would love to go

see a movie.

Thanks a, I really hate the way elderly people are brushed off by some

doctors. I am hoping I can stay on this low dose of Mtx because I really feel

it is beginning to work with the Enbrel. Hope you are able to continue taking

it. Were you taken off it because of your liver?

Ohhhh, June!! YOu go girl!!! I'm sure he is one who either one of

those docs who is only in it for the $$$$ and just doesn't give a

crap, or he is one who just doesn't give a crap about the elderly!!

Too bad that there are way to many like him out there. I'm so happy

that the drug combo is helping you. Those stress fractures hurt.

Been there, done that!!! So, I can feel for you on that one!! Now,

don't let them keep putting you off for that eye appointment. That

isn't something you want put off. You take care.......Marina

Yes June, my liver enzymes elevated while on mtx. I was on a much

higher dose than I'll be on this time, so hopefully I'll be able to

stay on it this time. I also hate the way the elderly are treated at

times. Both of 's parents are retired doctors and even they

aren't treated as well as they should be. There was a time when

professional courtesy existed, but even that has gone by the wayside.

Dear June,

I know I don't post much, but I have been thinking about you. That

movie sounds like one I will enjoy, as I love both Judi Dench and

Maggie ! You should be congratulated on progressing to a cane.

It was wonderful of you to champion your friend. I get so angry when

doctors talk about " addiction " to seniors, when all they want is just

some pain relief. There are a lot of good doctors out there, but then

there are those who just want to stick older people into the ground as

though they weren't worth anything.

Blessings to you,

Judi

June,

I'm glad you got out, and checked out a movie. I feel so bad for

you. Your always in my prayers, Tawny

> After 4 months of being either in my wheelchair or on my walker, my

sister took me to a movie last night and I managed with just my cane.

Saw Ladies in Lavender with Judy Dench and Maggie and I highly

recommend this movie. I am waiting for the results of all the bone

scans which should show the extent of the stress fractures, although

the pain is greatly reduced now. As for my eye, I have left a

message (hate talking to machines) to see if I can get an earlier

appointment, because my sight in that eye is getting worse and when I

look in the mirror it looks like this eye is getting smaller. If I

don't hear by Monday morning I plan on calling again. This is so

frustrating, especially when reading is such a part of my life. I

will be seeing my rheumy on Aug. 2 and plan on asking her if she can

do anything to speed up my appointment. The specialist I am seeing

have offices right beside the Rheumatology Dept. I am beginning to

think by adding Mtx with the Enbrel is beginning to show signs of

helping and blood tests so far have been okay, so maybe she will

increase the Mtx. At this point I am willing to take the risk if it

means better quality of life. I do count my blessings that unlike so

many of you that have to live with so much pain, my doctors make sure

I have an adequate supply of pain medication at all times. Even here

in Canada there are still docs that are afraid to prescribe anything

stronger than Tylenol 3. On Friday, a dear friend called to see if

Don could drive her to her doctors because she was in so much pain

she was in tears. This is a lady who still lives in her own home,

does all her own gardening etc. next week will celebrate her 85th

birthday. I had a gut feeling I should go along and go in with her

and I was so glad I did. Within minutes my temper was at an all time

high when he started talking about the possibility of addiction. I

can't repeat all I said since my language and tone were anything but

lady like but I did manage to get her a prescription for percocet. I

also confronted him as to why his office had not sought help for her.

We have so many excellent programmes for the elderly designed to

assist them in continuing to stay in their own homes. I refused to

take Helen home until his nurse had made a phone call to the nearest

hospital to start the ball rolling to get her some in home help. He

grudgingly did what I asked but I am sure he was hoping he never has

to see me again. Especially when I added that I could be his worst

nightmare in the future.LOL.
