Guest guest
I am a 37 year old male. On Feb 26 I underwent surgery to untether my spinal cord. I decided to go ahead with the procedure to possibly alleviate bowel incontinence which was my chief symptom. The surgeon told me it went very well, and he got an excellent closure of the dura. post op I noticed that the symptoms were gone. Three days after surgery I was released. I found I was pretty much an invalid after surgery and required a lot of care. I had home health nurses checking on me on an every other day basis. Five days ago I had my sutures removed and they said everything was going fine. Here is the problem and I'll describe it as best I can. Last night I went and picked up a few items at the grocery store. Everything seemed normal but on the way home I suddenly experienced a lot of lower back pain, followed by an incredible urge to have a bowel movement. it was overpowering. I was going 65 on the interstate so I pulled over to the breakdown lane. Immediately everything just came out. i did not have the ability to even begin to hold it. It was probably the most horrible thing that has ever happened to me. I drove to my mom's which is closer then my home. I am still unable to bend and do much due to the surgery so I underwent the humiliation of having my mother clean me up and wait for my wife to get out of work so she could bring me something to wear. I have had some accidents before but nothing compared to the severity of this. To be frank I don't understand what has gone wrong. I was doing so well and now 3 weeks post op it seems like I am getting worse then ever. I am scared, and back in protective undergarments. has anyone been through this? any ideas what the hell is going on? I put in a call to the surgeon and spoke to his nurse. She sympathizes but he is unavailable until the 19th which is the day I have an appointment to see him for a follow up appointment. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. I can also be reached via e-mail at tuvok1@... or on yahoo messenger under enterprise_dl. Thanks
