Hi all, this is Carla in Rhode Island.. I don't post much at all but I read

a lot. Sorry I haven't contributed more.. I'm usually spread a little thin

time wise. Blessings to all of you, I am so very touched by the love and

courage here. It is a wonderful, wonderful resource -- thank you a :-)

I got a diagnosis last October and had huge improvement using Methotrexate,

folic acid and naproxin..... well about a month and half ago the pain

started coming back, along with the swelling etc. etc. Most of my

difficulty at the moment is with wrists and some leg pain and I played head

in sand for about 3 weeks blaming it on my doing some gardening work for my

Mom (I couldn't help it, I was just so thrilled to be able to move that

much!) Then I tried blaming it on the heat.. finally I admitted I might need

my meds adjusted ...

I really love my rheumatologist Dr. Silversmith, she's young (but not

too young) and communicates well. We've increased my methotrexate to 8

little pills (20 mg.. no that's too much isn't it.. well 8 little pills, up

from 7)... and next month we are probably going to try adding Enbrel ....

she says that if that works we'll be reducing the amount of mx and probably

the naproxin eventually. I have to get a TB test before we start; thank

heavens my health insurance covers --- eternal gratitude there, I see how

many don't have good coverage and it makes it worth my 30 years working for

University.

I need to read up some more on the new drug.. she did give me some reading

material but I always want more... a I think you said this is the

combination you've been on for a while. I'm a little concerned about 2

things.. one I think I understand it can be bad if you have an infection

anywhere in your body -- I Did have Lyme, in fact that is what they believe

kicked off the RA. The lyme bacteria encapsulate when not active and so you

can never really be sure that it's all gone.... I know everything has

risks.. but I admit I'm scared of kicking loose an active Lyme session

again... also, what a weenie I am -- I'm turning 60 next week and planning

on retiring on January 7 -- frankly combining that with starting an

injectable medication has really kicked some anxiety loose. I'm panicking a

little bit -- like Ok, what's next.

I guess some sites to read more would be useful.. thanks. Carla B.
