Clearly the "end times" idea is prevalent. I like to think the End Times aren't the end of the world, but the end of a dysfunctional Western concept of time itself. Not that time doesn't exist, but our relationship to it needs repair. The restoration of balance between mankind and the ecosystem is tied into that issue in some way. Hard to explain how, but someone else may have some thoughts on that. C. Lockharthttp://www.soulaquarium.netYahoo! Guest guest
, Wonder if the end times will include a review of our 'Beliefs' sufficiently to see they are so dangerious and can kill.. What lies beyond belief means letting go of so much institutional power- the collective of beliefs- at present known as Religion- politics-institutions- secret societies-notions per se-opinions and on to subsequent behaviors.. The shift to experience- to first hand knowledge- to owning ones own pain and learning from it- Ah! Sure... all ideas.. There are those among us who are staking out trans-religious and trans-cultural positions in parts of the world where such positions are progressive, yet are greatly feared by the powers that be. And they do so at much personal risk to themselves. For example, I broke bread here yesterday with a young man who is in this country studying to be a teacher. He is also part a movement in Turkey (his native land) led by a man who is now in virtual exile in the US for his moderate Islamic beliefs. He is a Turkish Sufi, teaching moderation, interfaith dialog and peace in the midst of Islamic fundamentalists who are taken aims at him from all directions. Here is a little info about him and his organization which I find both encouraging and fascinating: http://fethullahgulen.org/ http://www.interfaithdialog.org/index.php http://www.interfaithdialog.org/r_articles.php From what I can tell, Mr. Gulen is a very peace-loving man, but he rocking the boat to a dangerous degree in his native Turkey, trying to moderate the rhetoric between Islam and the other great spiritual traditions of the world in a very constructive way. But some, it is watering down the teachings in a way that blends together too much with other religions, something to be feared by the " Islamic exotericists. " If any of you know of this man, I'd be interested in talking more about him...on or off list. It takes great courage to stand strong amidst the madness all around us, even if our hearts and motives be pure as the driven snow. Perhaps the " end times " merely indicates the end of " what we now know " as we move, collectively and individually, toward something far better in the future, but which is yet far from clear. Through the glass darkly.....ever into uncharted waters we go Greg _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
