Cancer the silent Killer

Monday, 9 January 2006,

By Nontokozo Mhlongo

It is said that prevention is better than cure. That is true in most

instances, especialy if you know exactly what it is you are trying to

prevent. In the case of the silent killer, Cancer, the best way to

combat it, is to encourage regular check ups because early detection can

do you a world of good.

Cancer used to be known as a European disease, but in recent reports,

researchers have shown that cancer is a disease becoming prevalent on

the African continent.

There are various cancers and each have their own symptoms. It is the

duty of various African health departments and the African Union to do

their job in educating and informing Africans about cancer, because the

cure is costly. The commonly used treatment is radiation, where

high-energy rays such as x-rays are used to kill the cancer cells. The

radiation may come from outside the body or from radioactive materials

placed directly in the tumor, which is also called radiotherapy.

So much has been said and sung of beautiful young girls, why don't

somebody wake up to the beauty of old women?
