Guest guest
I was in the hospital for 5 days after my first surgery (I had two surgeries, 10 years apart). I was allowed to move after the first day. I was 20 years old, and I healed very fast. I was up walking around the day after surgery, was up and dressed the day I got out - the doctor came to see how I was and I said " Good. I'm going home. " ) Some doctors don't let people move for a few days after surgery. I don't know if I could handle that. I fidget and pace around. I literally can't sit still, so it would be very annoying to have to for a long time. A few hints. Listen to your body. If you hurt, get pain meds. Don't let the pain get ahead of the medications and don't try to tough it out. There are no medals for being the one who uses the least amount of pain meds after surgery. Healing slows when one is in pain anyway. When they say don't lift anything, believe them. Spinal headaches are truly a nightmare. After my second surgery, I was back to work in 3 weeks. They told me I'd have to wait 6, but I can't be home that long without going nuts. Just listen to your body, though. Get someone to do the laundry for you for a few months. And relax. Rest. Let yourself heal. I won't lie and say the recovery is easy, but they give you the good drugs afterward. Use them! Good luck, and come here and vent, cry, yell, whatever you need to do to get through the next 10 days. I think the day before surgery is worse than the day after. --- wrote: > Hi again everyone. Guest guest
Hi , You'll find your answers will be all over the board. My nsg requires you lay flat for at least 72 hours after the surgery is over. After that time-frame, as long as there are no complications, you go home and recup. Recuperation lasted anywhere from four weeks to ten weeks for me. I've had five untetherings and I found the older I got the longer it took for me to get my energy back. If you have any complications it will of course add to your recup time. But, six weeks on average to feel more like yourself, to have energy again is about the average I'd say. The biggest thing with this surgery's recuperation is to listen to your body (as it is with most major surgeries I would think.) If your body is telling you've over-done, cave to it and rest. If you have energy, do small things and build up. With some of the recuperations, I pushed and over-did and not only did it bring on complications (spinal fluid leaks), it also made the recuperation much longer. The surgeries where I listened to my body and rested and caved to feeling tired or sore, the time-frame for feeling like myself again was much shorter. Kathy Recovery? Hi again everyone. I have enjoyed reading all your posts over the last few days. Its unbelievable to find so many people that feel like I do. Question. My first ever release is in 10 days (the 25th). I beginning to get very anxious. I realize EVERY case is different but I'm wondering what everyones hospital stay and recovery time was. Thanks.
