Poor Aundrea :o((.. I dont think the increase of the folic acid will

help that much. They doctor could add an anti-nausea medication but

I think you would be better off moving onto the shots.

I know its scary at 1st but its just the best way of getting this

medication into them with the fewest side effects.

Im sure Aundrea will rather deal with the shot than feeling like

this every week. using the cream will make it totally painless too.

Nick has no side effects from the shot... I dont even see any extra

tiredness the day after now either.

Good luck and let us know what the doc says...

Thanks Helen for your input on the mtx and folic acid increase. I

guess I will talk with Aundrea tonight about the shots again. The

last time I mentioned it she kind of freaked out about it. She

hasn't made the connection yet that the mtx is causing her vomiting

and I haven't shared this information with her because I didn't want

her to refuse to take the med or panic about the nausea happening.

I am going to sit her down tonight and discuss the injection route

with her. I will give the rheumy a call tomorrow.

I am not sure that she will believe me if I tell her that the shots

really aren't that painful. Maybe I will show her your post about

Nick and see if that will convince her.

Thanks for your help...I hope you have been able to get some rest.

What a busy weekend for you!!!

,

I think it's time for the injectible. I would still do the

injectible at bedtime just in case and let her sleep through the

aftermath.

Hi Stacia,

We are going to the doctors office this week to learn how to give a

shot...We have to go in the morning, but hopefully she will do o.k.

especially since its suppose to by-pass the stomach for the most

part.

If were brave enough, next week to do the shot by ourselves then we

will go back to our night-time dosing.

thanks for the suggestion.

You might try the MTX injections.

I am no expert, but I went through the same problem you're dealing with

now. I started taking half my dose in the morning and the other half in the

evening before bed on the day it was due. I found it to be a lot easier on

my system. Also, I ate a few crackers before taking it to help with the

nausea.

Eventually, I was switched to injections - which has pretty much

eliminated the nausea all together. Speak to your doc if you are still

suffering.....there are options.

Take care,

Hi , I did the same thing with it. My symptoms were becoming

unbearable. I finally was switched to the injection and it doesn't

effect my GI tract as bad....Marina

I have always taken folic acid tablets daily since I started

methotrexate pill form and injections now. I prefer the injections as

it doesn't go through the digestive system. The folic acid was to

help with the side effects of the meth. Betty

, Does the phenergran not help? I keep that on

hand all the time. I take the liquid form and it helps

almost instanly. Although it does make me sleep.

When I was on the oral MTX, I had extreme nausea and diarrhea. When I

was on the injections, I had no stomach problems at all.

Maybe you could ask your doctor about switching. There has been a

shortage of injectable mtx, so some doctors aren't prescribing it.

I've been trying to get it for several months, and have finally located

a source for it thanks to my doctor. Have you been on the mtx tabs

for 4 months?

Were you given a smaller dose in the beginning? Since I'm taking it

along with Enbrel, my doctor isn't going to prescribe more than 7.5

mgs.

This is also because every time I try to take a higher dose, my liver

enzymes elevate. My doctor says that the lower dose in conjunction

with the Enbrel is giving great results. I always took it at night

so I slept through any side effects.

Are you talking about the injectable? I have been getting mine from

CVS. I just give them a 2 day notice for when I need it and they get

it in without any problems. They give me the 100mg vials (25mg/ml).

So far I haven't had any problems...Marina
